So, basically what we ended up with? Only real difference being the North would still be included?

ETA: I like how people act like this wasn't a storybook ending. That's exactly what it was. All the bad people died and our heros got what they wanted in the end.

A non-story book ending would have been Dany conquering, Jon bending the knee or being killed and then Dany setting her sights on the North. Fade to black.

She crucified 163 Masters of Meeren.

Revealed that Bran is really the NK

Arya kills Cersei

The fans wanted fan service.

It’s like they forget they were watching Game of Thrones, written specifically to oppose this

This is unironically the happy ending that I wanted.

And KL wouldn’t have been destroyed?

I wouldn’t deny they tried to sow everything up in a happily ever after scenario. I was just pointing out a big result of R+L=J

Best part about the final episode was KL went from a wasteland to a bustling port city in a matter of a month.

It also a contributing factor towards Dany going mad.

And it didn't have to be.

There was absolutely no reason to tell Jon any of this shite before their battle with the Night King.

What do you not understand about, regardless of outcome we wanted it to be well written?

All of the things you listed aren’t exactly what I wanted but certainly better than what we got

John vs Grey Worm in a trail by combat would have been fitting to end the series.

i would say my biggest complaints about season 8 were:

-building up the fight against the dead for 8 years and especially in the first 2 episodes only to have it be completed in the third episode with no real payoff or consequences

-building tension between sansa and dany yet never letting that play out. jon killing dany because she was seconds away from killing sansa would've been fantastic.

-making varys, one of the smartest/most cunning characters in ASOIAF, give himself up so easily by telling tyrion and jon his plans

-killing off almost all of the unsullied and dothraki in the BOWF only to have them multiply by crazy by the BOKL

-completely going back and forth on brans character. can he see in the future? can he only see the past? a guy that "doesn't want for anything" wanted the throne the entire time ("why do you think i came all this way)?

-making jon, the main protagonist of the show that has had an amazing progression up this point, utterly useless for an entire season

-drogon is so pissed about his mother dying that he burns the iron throne instead of her killer. i get it, it symbolizes that he was destroying the thing that ultimately got his mother killed, but it was still stupid.

-giving cersei a happy ending. wtf?

-clearly having no idea what to do with euron who was supposed to make "ramsay look PG"

-the ASOIAF book scene at the end was pure cringe

There's a lot more I can add, but I could go on for pages. I don't know, I expected more from the show runners. I remember reading some of these plot points on r/freefolk a year ago and thought they were BS because they were so bad. Little did I know

Yep. Grey Worm goes from slitting the throats of surrendered Lannister soldiers just because they weren’t on team Dany to putting the guy who actually killed their beloved Queen in a jail cell (and we didn’t even get to see that part). And then let’s his prisoner dictate a meeting of the kingdoms. If the defenders can’t understand why others don’t like that then idk what to say.

If Grey Worm would have cut Jon’s head off I would have been totally cool with that because it simply made sense. I didn’t have to see Jon on the throne for me to be satisfied

We want special moves, motherfricker
We want valaryian steel to matter
We want Arya to go tricky faceless man action
We want Bran’s warging/time travel/super magic action to matter
We want dire wolves to matter
We want Jon’s lineage to REALLY matter

We got a whole bunch of hinted special moves, without any payoff.

What if Frank Dux never used his split, or the dim mak in combat? What if he was never blinded in his fight with Chong Li? He even used the “grab something really fast” special move to win his bet with Hussein to score some pussy. That would have sucked arse to see him learn all that shite or hint that he had such power, and not see him bust it loose on the bad guys.

I guess I’m the only person that didn’t see Dany doing anything out of character. You could see from her earlier exploits that she lurched from one failure to another. Freeing the slaves en masse was clearly a boneheaded move politically that she did because it felt right. She did whatever her emotions dictated the whole show.

The ending makes more sense than ppl realize.

The problem is how we got there.

Edt: Esp if you are one that was on board the hivemind of the weirwoods. They finally rule Westoros again.
