It was to be expected I guess. China loves their FF.

More dumb movies will be made to attract that market.

Big difference in being number 1 and going for 190 mill.

quote:

The largest of all of this weekend's openings is the estimated $190 million the film brought in from China, which is the largest three-day opening weekend of all-time in China and, of course, the biggest Hollywood opening of all-time.

For example it is not even in the top 40 in the US. And that is not even with taking time adjustments into account, which would make it much lower.

China has only been allowed the release of big budget Hollywood releases to go out on a massive scale in the last 15 years or so. They have 1.3 billion people (compared to US's 330 million) so that number with be eclipsed as more theaters open and are allowed to show US films. Also, foreign movies aren't allowed to play for nearly as long as they might in the US so their numbers are very front loaded.

I know how the China market works. But once again, they have a type.

You know what their 2nd highest opening was?
Furious 7 $182,400,000
Which was $147,000,000 Domestic

They have a type and it isn't even a debate.

For example they don't out sale domestic in any of the other top domestic movies. Not even close.

I am talking about in opening weekends. Looks at other huge box office shows Jurassic World, Avengers, Ultron, Civil War. Star Wars (Obviously this one released late).

If Aliens came down to earth and saw the highest grossing films in China of all-time; they'd assume China was a kids-only nation state ala Children of the Corn.

The Top movies ever in China, most beloved, highest grossing movies ever:

1. The Mermaid
2. Monster Hunt
3. Furious 7
4. Transformers - Age of Extinction
5. Kung Fu Yoga

9. Fate of the Furious
Zootopia
Avengers Age of Ultron
Warcraft
Jurassic World
Avatar

The Great Wall - yes, that Matt Damon dragon movie.

All kids movies should be test-marketed in China.

Just like Yao Ming starting the NBA All-Star Game in 2003 & 2004 over Shaq.

They're taking over ALL of the important things in our world!
