Is there an English version of Das Boot?

Yes. As long as you can get past the lips not synching, that is the version I have always seen.

Check out The Command on Netflix. It’s a loosely based on a true story of the Kursk, a Russian Nuclear sub sinking during naval exercises

While nowhere near "the best", I saw Hunter Killer with Gerard Butler recently and it was pretty good. Very entertaining if you're looking to add to your submarine movie collection.

As the daughter of a 27-year submariner, movies in this genre are among my favorites. As a kid, Run Silent, Run Deep was my favorite. (Kind of like The High and the Mighty with John Wayne for pilots.)

The Hunt for Red October and Crimson Tide are also favorites.

I was lucky enough to go on a dependents *dive* on the USS Halibut in the early 60's. What a rush!
