Watching TFA for the First Time Since Original Viewing at the Theatre

I've been drinking so bear with me. A few points...
1. The SJW garbage is disgusting I almost turned it off with the female and black guy playing Manor roles. Way to force progressivism on us Disney.
2. Lor San Tekka needed more airtime.
3. Disney royally fricked up the franchise without a Corran Horn or Kyle Katarn.
The black guy and Rey just stile the Millennium Falcon more to follow

I'm sorry, but every director would have gone with a female protagonist in TFA. It's a natural way to change it up and we haven't seen a female Jedi before. I remember when this was first announced, I posted that the protagonist would have to be female.
Granted Finn didn't have to be black, but since I'm not a racist, I don't really have a problem with it.

They didn't whatsoever. No director or writer in their right mind would want to be held hostage by a fan fiction writer. Hell, I don't think they want to be held hostage by the prequels. There is only one wink at them when Kylo mentions using a clone army, and that's it.
No director is going to compromise their creative vision because a few thousand nerds who are going to go see the movie regardless will be butthurt over changing some books few people have read. Deal with it.

It was more than "fan fiction" bro. You've obviously never read any of the expanded universe because you'd realize that the Thrawn trilogy, which should have been episodes 7-9, was a waaaay better story than the New Hope rehash

Here's the thing: only the biggest nerds cared about it. The fan base at large didn't give a frick about the novelization. As far as we're all concerned, it is fan fiction.
I'm a big Star Wars fan, and I knew as soon as it was announced that there was not a chance in hell that Disney would follow the EU. We had to debate you clowns for a good 2 years before we could convince you that they weren't using the EU.
Why the frick would Disney have their 30 billion dollar vision (after merchandising) be compromised by a few novels that may have had a total of 15 million dollars in sales? I might make reference to them, but if I was in Disney, I'd never remotely consider bringing the EU to the big screen.
The first step was to reestablish faith in the franchise by the fans. Putting Thrawn in wouldn't have done that. You needed to create new likable characters and then do the old characters justice with a familiar plot. That's exactly what it needed to be. If you think starting off with a Star Wars fan novel was ever in the cards, then you just don't know how the film industry and the viewing public at large works.

Well, that's fair. I am a bigger fan of Lord of the Rings than Star Wars. Save for Empire, the product quality has been higher. All 3 were nominated for Best Picture, Return of the King won it, and it's prequels while flawed were in every single way superior to Star Wars.
