Watching 80's Movies with my 6 year old son

Movies I loved as a kid that I never see on TV
This thread really got me thinking about my favorite childhood movies. As a result of the thread I went home that night and sat down with my 6 y/o son and watched The Explorers. He died laughing at some parts and loved the movie. He couldn't believe that those kids made a spaceship out of trash.
My point is that I think my son is ready to move on from cartoons. His whole life we've had him watching cartoon movies like Toy Story, Cars, Rango, etc...You get the idea. However, he's never really watched many movies that were not animated.
Last night we watched Flight of the Navigator which wasn't near as good to him. It's pretty slow for the first half of the movie but the part with the ship was fun. I liked it better than he did.
What movies like these two would you suggest we watch next?
So far we've watched:
The Explorers
Flight of the Navigator
Ernest Goes to Camp

The Last Starfighter
The Dark Crystal (could be scary, but I watched it at 6)
The Neverending Story
Superman is probably a good one too.
Mac and Me
Goonies is probably a little too old. Same for original TMNT. That might be 7 or 8 territory. Labyrinth in maybe a year two. And every youth should watch Rad. Just saying.

I had The Ghostbusters, The Goonies, and The Explorers all on the same VHS tape.
I wore that sucker out as a kid.

Has to be next on my list. One of my all time favorites.
I contemplated goonies also and decided to wait on that one.

Willow?
ETA: Yes, Willow.
Also try Short Circuit 1 and 2, and damn you for not showing the boy Earnest Saves Christmas.

I'd probably put that in 7 or 8 category as well, that and Legend.
If your kid can handle Dark Crystal, then I think that puts Labyrinth into play "Power of the voodoo."

When I coach 7/8 yo baseball, I would assign as "homework" Sandlot, the Rookie and Angel in the Outfield.
Net result: kids with no previous interest in baseball wanted to come to practice and wanted to learn.
Then I'd watch Walter Matthau in the orignal Bad News Bears ...

You've just inspired me. I'm the head coach for my sons team, which starts in April. Might steal this idea if you dont mind.

I actually have vague memories of that movie and I remember not liking it at all.

It came in a 3 pack, which I'm sure was in the $5 ben at Walmart, that was a side gift for his bday from my aunt. It had Ernest Goes to Camp, Ernest Scared Stupid, and Ernest Goes to Jail. Wow Ernest Scared Stupid is AWFUL!!!!
Anyone remember the runaway golf cart in Ernest goes to camp? My son belly laughed every time they showed it.
golf cart starts to run away at 2:33

I was pretty into Star Wars as a 6 year old. We didn't have a VCR yet. So it was sunday night Disney, Saturday coratoons, or Tom & Jerry afternoon reruns.
Some Disney ones I remeber are The Apple Dumpling Gang, Pete's Dragon, Cat from Outer Space, Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
I remember watchng Meatballs a lot as a child, but I'm sure I was older than 6.

I'll just assume you've showed him the GOONIES?

I believe that if you are in your 30's and haven't seen the Goonies, then you are dead to me.
Give me 12 more months and he will have watched it. Sloth, the stiff in the fridge, etc is just a little too much for him just yet. He just turned 6.

Eh, I think he'd prolly be okay, but only because you already watched Ernest Goes to Camp (which is full of irreverence from the boys, right?).
But still, most of the ones I'd have listed have already been mentioned.
I wanna say PeeWee's Big Adventure, but I'm not sure how a kid these days would feel about that one since PW'sPH isn't on anymore.
Oh, and Ernest Scared Stupid is awesome.
Also, E.T. obviously.
