You could go with the idea, which has been used before on here, that everyone has the virus. When you die you will become a zombie. IE: They are the walking dead

they may have been bitten somewhere on their bodies. Its not like rick and shane took their clothes off to search their stomachs/sides.

Maybe the people on the bus killed the security guards.

I understanding is that everyone has the virus and you become a walker when you are bitten and then die. if you die of natural causes or anything other than being bitten you will die like any normal person.

If this wasn't true than all the soldiers at the cdc and all the people in their cars on the interstate would be zombies and not just dead.

I believe walkers eat what is moving or making noises, see how t-dog, darryl, and rick covered up with dead walkers to let other walkers walk past them.

I haven't read any of the comics just my own ideas.

The zombie in the tank...how did he become a zombie? I don't think a zombie is smart enough to know how to climb out of a tank...or else this guy would have.

that was actually supposed to be the first episode but they changed it.

he was a part of a battalion that was assigned to go to atlanta a hook up with their fellow soldiers. he was the only one of his group to make it to the checkpoint but he was bitten along the way.

he crawled into the tank and was about to pull the pin on the gernade that rick found in the tank but the fever got to him and he died before he could pull the pin.

when rick crawled into the tank the soldier zombie tried to attack him.

I don't have an issue with the fact that some people are walkers, while others get eaten. Different things happen to different people. Some caught it however it originally got out. many died. They turned into zombies. Zombies ate some people. Zombies bit or scratched others.

Why wouldn't the zombie who bit you just eat you?

Because you put a bullet in his head or got away some other way. We've seen people on the show get bitten and escape as often as we've seen them get eaten.

ETA: Hell, one zombie gnawed on Darryl's boot rather than eating him while passed out.

@Bham) The zombie was stupid, but had Darryl not woken up he would have been eaten sooner or later. That zombie just had a foot fetish.

That episode would have been great. I could have done without one of the "Where the frick is Sophia?" episodes in exchange for some background.

The opener allegedly flashbacks to the early days of the zombie apocalypse. The entire episode would have tracked a squad of Army Rangers dropping into Atlanta. They get trapped in a zombie outbreak. “All they have to do is travel maybe a dozen blocks, a simple journey, but what starts as a no-brainer scenario goes from ‘the city is being secured’ to ‘holy shite, we’ve lost control, the world is ending,’” Darabont describes in a letter to AICN. So, yeah — Black Hawk Down with zombies.

Along the way, the soldiers encounter some familiar faces from the show. “Picture our squad arriving at a manned barricade where some civilians are being held back from leaving the city on shoot-to-kill orders to stop the spread of contagion, it’s a panicked high-intensity scene, and in this crowd of desperate people we find Andrea and Amy. The barricade gunners panic, the civilians start to get mowed down by machine-gun fire, and in this melee the girls get pulled to safety by some old guy they don’t even know. It’s Dale. He’s nobody to them, just some guy who saw the opportunity to do the right thing and reacted in the moment.”

The end of the episode concludes with the last surviving member of the squad, now infected and dying, hiding in a tank. A very familiar tank…

“After the soldier dies this squalid, lonely death … and after a quiet lapse of time … we do a shot-for-shot reprise from the first episode of the first season: Rick comes scrambling into the tank to escape the horde … blows that zombie soldier’s brains out … now Rick’s trapped … fade out … the end.?? The notion was to take the ‘throwaway’ tank zombie Rick encountered in the pilot, and tell that soldier’s story. Make him the star of his own movie, follow his journey, but don’t reveal who he is until the end. The idea being that every zombie has a story…”

That sounds badass.
