Studios still absolutely positively dump their garbage in January. Nothing has changed that, not Covid, not anything. The 355, the only wide release of the weekend didn’t even crack $400 grand on opening night.

Well the commercials for the 355 that come up on youtube while I'm listening to music mowing my lawn make me want to jump of a bridge, so it could just be that movie fricking sucks.

There have already been two female killers in the franchise.

I'm not surprised. That looked like utter trash from the get go...or maybe udder trash since the cast was all female. Ha.

All I know is if I ever had a psycho killer after me I want the one from the first Scream movie. I mean hell, that girl kicked his arse two or three times during the movie, I think I could take him.

That might be the only twist left to do. She finally snaps. But from the previews it looks like it will be a younger killer, or maybe two different ones (which has basically been done in every movie).

Holy Hell. I just saw the cast. They checked every box. When will this shite ever end? How is it not racist to say "I want one of these, one of these, and one of these" when trying to cast a movie? It seems so forced.

From wikipedia

RelishMix said reactions to its promotional content were "mixed-negative as fans feel like they're being served a bit of a cliché cookie-cutter action package in the spirit of Charlie's Angels or 'James Bond's daughters' with a diverse mix of kick-arse supercharged women. Fans of Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong'o and Penelopé Cruz are super supportively cheering for success, but amidst the Covid-resurge, moviegoers are tapping their finger for Peacock or another streaming service drop date."[2]

Super supportively cheering for success? Doesn't sound like it worked.

A movie like The 355 doesn't get released in January five years or so ago. It stars Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Penelope Cruz, and Lupita Nyong'o. Two of them are Oscar-winning actors while another has been nominated. A movie like The 355 would have been released in March or April in years past due to the caliber of its cast.

January used to be reserved for film releases like Alone in the Dark, featuring washed up former B-listers like Tara Reid. Nowadays movies like that are released straight to VOD.

This looked like a bad network tv series when I saw the trailer.

That has nothing to do with it. Release dates are at the discretion of the studios. If the studio has no faith in how a film will perform, they put it in a dumping ground month which are January and September. Universal clearly saw the writing on the wall with this one.

3 is more disappointing than anything. They had a great concept w/the murders happening on the set of a Stab movie but fumbled the execution by having the killer be a long lost brother. Also, Sid's dreams w/her dead mother were just weird and should have been cut.

I agree the concept was cool, but I don’t even really know if they could have made that great of a movie based on the concept.

It kind of felt like it was a movie that was too self aware. You liked Scream and its meta approach? Well Scream 3 beats you over the head with the meta to the point that it’s just annoying.

On top of that, the casting in 3 was really bad. At least 4 had a much better cast.

If only they kept Kevin Williamson for Scream 3. His original script eventually became The Following, the tv show made by Fox. That would have been incredible, but no, they rejected his script and gave us gutter trash and threw in Jay and Silent Bob for giggles as a big frick you to the fan base. Why would you deny the guy who wrote the first two which were big successes the chance to deliver again? Just made no sense.

No shite? That’s pretty neat. Although, “The Following” was a show that quickly went off the rails after the first season.

Like Scream 2, the plan was to roll into production on Scream 3 very quickly after the previous movie’s release. Williamson’s script for the concluding chapter of the trilogy was much more ambitious. It would reveal that one of the original killers, Stu Macher, is actually alive and in prison. But he’s communicating with a very loyal fan base and orchestrating attacks on Sidney from behind bars.

The studio had no major problems with the script, Wes Craven was once again returning to direct, and production was about to get underway when two teenagers went on a shooting spree at a Colorado high school. Columbine completely changed the horror landscape at the time, which was primarily centered on teen slashers before the tragedy.

“Scream 3” still came out in 2000, the year after Columbine.

But I guess it was no longer a “teen slasher.” Maybe it was supposed to come out in ‘99?

Otherwise, that doesn’t make that much sense.

I think it forced them to change who the killers were. They were likely going to be teenage psychopaths under the influence of Stu Macher. Instead the killer ended up being an affluent Hollywood filmmaker and half-brother of the main protagonist.
