Didn't scratch my 80s list, but I think the first movie would probably make my 70s list ... actually, I can't say that definitively since the 70s was such a fertile decade for cinema.

yeah, and it may be the nostalgia factor for the first that makes me think i like this one so much

Keep it in alphabetical order bc Blade Runner needs more votes. I need to be able to write a review on a movie I really like. Buncha bull queers around here not voting for it.

I wrestled over leaving Blade Runner out.

First time I saw the Director's Cut stoned out of my gourd and I was confident it was one of the best movies I had ever seen. Saw it for a second time sober out of my gourd and I thought it was just "pretty good."

fwiw the Vangelis soundtrack is one of my jams whilst writing. I guess that's why all my prose turns out cold and cynical, like you could paste it in the middle of a Dashiell Hammett novel and no one could tell the difference.

I really dislike Blade Runner. Great sets, though.

I think the hard cuts are necessary for a good overall list. It makes you really consider the quality of the films and your rankings.

With a larger number, I think we would see more of people just throwing every movie on a list regardless of rank.

A lot of calls for 40, but I stand by the limitation, as hard as it is even for me. I haven't made cuts in 2 days because I just don't want to cut anything else.

it's like 2001:ASO -- slow, atmospheric, philosophical.

There are just as many haters as there are lovers, it seems.

So based on that description and what you said earlier, watch it stoned.

It's not required. I first saw Blade Runner back in the mid 80s when I was a kid and I loved it.

I agree with this. I'm glad we're sticking to 20. These lists should be exclusive and hard pare down. Means we can only keep The Best of the Best. Because a list is not a list if you don't give a damn about each movie on it!

I struggled with leaving this masterpiece off this list.

So glad this made somebody's list. It's one of those quintessentially '80s movies that I REEEEEALLY hated to cut.

you're welcome, but if i hadn't alphabetized them it wouldn't have been in the top 20.

also 48 hours and beverly hills cop were both in my 80 list.
