If tweet fails to load, click here. This "rumor" was apparently started by the guy's own PR rep. I'm sure the subversive freaks in Hollywood would love to do this with, but there's no way Nintendo will allow this to happen, assuming they retained creative control, and knowing Nintendo they certainly have.
The narrative of the entire movie would become about transgenderism, with absolutely nothing else getting any attention. It would overshadow everything else like Mr. Burns sun blocker.
Something tells me Nintendo doesn't want to turn arguably their most prestigious franchise into an LGBT one.

Nintendo prides itself on being very family friendly to the point where it can be detrimental at times, I just don't see them greenlighting this

She thinks she's a feminist while she advocates for men playing dress-up to take roles from women.
This is like the ultimate gender swap: Man pretending to be a woman takes a role designed for a woman and is credited as a woman.
ETA: Like others have said, I don't think this will happen. Nintendo isn't stupid. Just commenting on what people like Gail Simone are advocating for.
