the producers would be doing themselves a disservice by using retreads when so many other actors should be clamoring
no not retreads, compelling movie star pairings. Since the show is a short shoot you could pretty much approach anyone on the A-list and they would listen.
who ever would have put MM and WH together as cops? That is creative casting of the highest order. MM is pretty much playing a South Louisiana MM but WH is going completely against type and that makes the show work. IN TD you never see that stupid WH smirking grin with his chin down you always see him do.

I can see them trying to replicate that with a major metropolitan area. I think they stay away from NY, Baltimore, Boston, or LA, maybe try a Seattle or Denver type city.
I may get blasted for this, but I would REALLY like to see Houston work as a location for something like this. Pizzolato has a movie for his Galveston book coming out soon, so I doubt he would want to confuse the two, but you would think that someone could make it work.
With that having been said, maybe he could use his Austin roots and have it centered in that area. That would be interesting... maybe the premise could be that someone is bumping off hipsters in Austin and no one cares!

MM always plays himself (as wooderson) in everything he does, there are just varying degrees of wooderson in each role
TD = cop wooderson with a dead kid and a philosophy degree
Dallas Buyers Club = blue collar worker wooderson gets AIDS and makes a bunch of money
etc

Nic p has begun writing season 2, and there will be a female detective.
I'm also pretty sure that I read somewhere the location will be on the West Coast too. Like Cali.

I think that Bruce Willis would be great for something like this. I think he has the talent and could use the "reboot" this project would provide.
As far as a female detective, maybe if it were Texas/Louisiana based then Sandra Bullock might be an option. Jodie Foster or Natalie Portman might be interesting to see with some good source material as well!

Mendocino, CA was used as Cabot Cove, Maine in Murder She Wrote.

I think doing something in a big city that doesn't get national tv show love would be great - Denver, indianapolis, cleveland, pittsburg, memphis, houston.
Denver could be good b.c of all the white power shite that went on there since the early 80s.
But its going to be tough to replicate the unique cultural angles that insert themselves into season 1. Most places are devoid of culture, in fact all the cities I mentioned have almost zero culture.

That have already worked together...ipso facto...retreads.
I think Boris the Blade would go perfectly with an equally blunt foreign female counterpart. I'm thinking Susan Boyle. The setting could be Bismarck, South Dakota. But instead of a Fargo tone, I'd go midsummer with lots of sepia camera filters to really add an edge. Could be investigating dastardly events taking place in a tribal jurisdiction, believed to be tied an international elderly slave smuggling ring, thus necessitating 2 crack Interpol agents.
I'll send this to Nick right away.
