re: True Detective Season 1 finale and half of season 2 killed any interest...

I don’t even remember how S3 ended but I did really enjoy Ali and Dorff’s chemistry. Easily the next best season after S1.

I’m 2 episodes in and love it. This is very disappointing
I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes. 4 is kinda where it starts getting off the rails, at least for me. 5 wasn’t bad at the time I watched it, but it was made pretty bad in retrospect for me after the finale.
SPOILERS:
I think the main issue with the show as a whole is that none of the characters had an arch, really. They set up several of them, but didn’t follow through with one that I can think of. None of the characters changed or grew in any significant way, is what I mean.
Danvers arch was set up with the relationship with Leah. We should have seem Danvers and Leah either embrace at the end of the episode to show that they have renewed love for one another; or have Leah go native and run off. The fact that we don’t get any sort of resolution renders all of the Danvers/Leah stuff meaningless. We see Leah say “don’t die” into a phone and she’s never shown again.
Eve’s Arch was SpongeBob toothbrush. Have them go on walkabout together, homie would have totally gone and then eve shows she trusts someone else. Instead eve starts angry and distrustful of anyone but Danvers and ends angry and distrustful of anyone but Danvers.
Then there is their arch as partners, which should have been learning from the mistake of killing the only surviving witness to a terrible crime, but nah, they kill that dude.
Prior’s dad starts as the dumbest human being on planet earth and ends as the dumbest human being on earth.
Prior starts off never taking a stand against Danvers and ends covering up more murders at Danvers’ behest.
I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point right? What was the point of like 95% of the show?

That first gif straight up shows her pussy lips. Good job getting that through.

I'm gonna rewatch season 2. I think it will be ok after watching season 4

We saw her and Danvers in the car at the end of the finale laughing and getting along. You could tell they were on a new path with each other. Completely different relationship than the first 5 episodes. She also had the chin tattoo that Danvers had been against.

It took 3 watches of Season 2 to appreciate. It was confusing with the strange character names, the amount of characters and each character's own storyline.
Ultimately it was a good season but it definitely takes some effort to get there.

My general opinion is season 1 is overrated and season 2 is underrated. That being said if I were going to rewatch one it would be season 1. Season 3 is also really good. I just finished season 4 watched the 6 episodes in 3 days. I enjoyed a lot of it but had real problems with the finale, just didn't wrap a lot of things up.

I agree with you season 1 mystery solve was weak but still a great season.
Season 2 is better than most people here think but it was too different.
Couldn’t get into season 3 after a few episodes. and haven’t watched since.

I recently did a (first) rewatch of s1 and s2 and liked them both alot better the second time around for the exact reason you mentioned (easier to follow so many different weird names and characters).

S3 was good and got back to the basics following S2's overly complicated plot. S4 is good but the last episode was an absolute mess. It's definitely worth a watch but the ending leaves a lot to be desired.

I agree with this sentiment. Binged it recently after not watching it since it originally aired. It honestly held my attention more than a lot of 3
