It isn't THAT far fetched. I remember going to Disney around that time and those frickers were every where. I also recall watching news stuff in school about police using them and what not.

Ha! I knew the Segway thing was a little far fetched. When I saw them I had to ask, "Wait, is this supposed to be 2002 or 2012?" I mean, I'm not going to harp on it, but it seemed a little advanced.
How does post production not catch this?

Because it's not that big of a deal.

They didn't go on sale until November 2002.

we can start calling this the “Doc Jensen moment” — the point in the run of a mystery-based TV show when the building leaves Elvis, so to speak, and the story the actual show is telling gets eclipsed by the story the show’s fan base is telling itself about the show.
i think it's clear last week was this point with TD
for these threads, we can call it the "Lest Earl" moment, b/c he pointed it out succinctly and directly like no one else last week

Ok.
It's not a big deal. It's not like I went on and on about that detail.
The Segway wasn't why that episode was less than stellar.

They were probably invented by the Green Eared Spaghetti Monster.
He kept the bible campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the height of advanced technology.

Truthfully, I don't think I did much texting until Hurricane Katrina.

If I remember right, some companies had Segways before they went on sale to the general public.

I was talking with a friend of mine about how much trouble directors were going to have about making period pieces about the 2000s on. The technology moved so fast that it is going to be really easy to frick up little details when they are just plot devices.

I calm down during the viewing.

now that i wake up 100% sober and i think about a way to describe it...that episode returned the audience to "reality"
not only is the "past" essentially wrapped up (even though they squeezed another layer or 2 at the very end), but the actual story used to resolve the story line was a lot more cliched (or normal, or boring, whichever word fits your world view) than was anticipated by a lot of people
now it's over. it feels like we're at a funeral and people are eulogizing TD...all the good times and all the things we were going to do in the future, interrupted by it's early demise. people are fighting with that in their heads a good bit

stole it from beverly hills cop
I think they were drawing direct parallels between Axel's character and rust. That scene is all about an out of town unknown cop showing up and fricking with a well established business man with the police in his pocket.
Watch and listen to the scene:
NSFW language

and it's real nit picky and irrelevant, but i can guarantee you marty is not an early adopter of tech
