The quickest (albeit incomplete) explanation is that, in addition to the normal four dimensions (length, width, depth, time) there are seven other dimensions that, while unseen and unperceived by us, actually chiefly influence how the Universe "works".
But mostly Cohle is just tossing that out there with a cynical view of the Many Worlds Theory to screw with the investigators so I don't anticipate his grasp of theoretical physics actually playing a role in the resolution of the season.

I think the thread has been pretty solid, minus Decatur, but he is so wrong it's almost funny. I wouldn't recommend reading it from start to finish now, but if you've stayed up with it, it's been entertaining. As someone said, most of these theories will be put to rest Sunday, but I'm sure Ryno and Decatur will creat new ones.

As far as the beer cans go Rust makes 5 tin men. They have crowns. We have seen the 5 men one woman thing several times during the show. During this episode Rust knocks one down. I took that to mean 1 down (Ledoux in this narrative) 4 more responsible people to go.

But I don't think the particulars of M-theory are particularly important for the show (or probably in real life). It's just a way of para-scientifically getting at more metaphysical idea of eternal return. M-theory just adds plausibility to the notion of "a higher dimension," I guess.

Reggie had a spiral in between his shoulder blades. It was removed but you can see it.
Also, Reggie reacted to Marty when he told him to freeze, like he was confused. When he saw Rust he looked like "oh, I'll play along".
He soon new his fate but warned Rust, "he sees ya, your in Carcosa now". He being Marty. Your in his world now.

i also think he's starting to convince some people that his theory has merit, and they're reacting internally
still, even if marty is the killer, these people won't admit it sucks and i was right...so it doesn't matter in the end
