i have a feeling that a large majority of the praise it is getting (note: i agree it was good, but not GOAT like this board wants one to believe) is due to the fact that it was set and filmed in S. LA.
I agree.
This series had great potential, a great cast/acting and superb directing, but in the end the writing fell apart.

Can you tell me anything at all about season 2?
Nic Pizzolatto: Okay. This is really early, but I'll tell you (it's about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.
here we go again

I couldn't disagree more.

I'm pretty sure that they aren't coming back. I don't want it, and I don't think any good would be accomplished by it. Now is the perfect time to end.

completely disagree with the "fell apart"

You thought that the ending was weak? How so, what would you have liked to happen?
I would have liked them to explain the cult, who was involved, etc. Having Errol as the killer was pretty lame IMO. They guy was one step above retarded, as seen by his fricking his sister.

We never got much disclosure on that. We knew
Tuttle was involved, but to what extent? How about the governor, police chief, etc? Everyone except Errol was dead, so IMO it left to much to the imagination.

like it has been said numerous times, I don't think they had to spell it out for everyone, we just know that they were involved in some way and aided in the cover up

Episodes 5 through 7 were about as good as it gets for TV. The finale was tense but not the ending that I had imagined.

Well that's not at all what that last scene was.
pretty sure it was. It was rust getting past his sociopathic nature (through a deathly/near-death experience) and finally feeling something greater than himself.

No, because he was standing in the open anyway
So dogs don't follow people?? Once he got to "Carcosa" he obviously had the home field advantage on Rust if he could avoid having his position given away..

I loved the finale. The entire season was solid.
What I wanted to know was how did the cops know to go to that location since the phone in the house didn't work? I'm guessing Marty's meeting with one of the cops filled him in on some of the info and told them to come back them up after a certain period of time.
Or did I miss something?

It was an awakening of hope.

the scene at Rust's hospital bed side spells it out for all the brain surgeons out there who want to see every last detail specifically buttoned up.
rust "we didn't get all of them"
marty "no, we didn't get em all, its not that kind of world, but we GOT OURS"
Amazes me how some people don't understand the genre. this is not Law and Order La

It seemed more like Rust was disappointed he couldn't leave this world. He wanted to die but instead was left here dealing with the darkness. Marty's pep talk about the light battling the dark was the thing that gave him hope.

I thought it was great. I knew I would come here and get Lost-esque "how did the polar bears get there" questions. Not everything needs to be explained. Had they done that it would have cheapened the show.
Excellent show. Some of you may be disappointed because Marty's father in law didn't appear at the end with a sign that said yellow king around his neck, but that's your own fault for coming up with theories and accepting nothing less. It's certainly not the writing's fault.
