There are only two true trilogies that this can be said of, IMO:

Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises

The Fellowship of the Ring
The Twin Towers
The Return of the King

Any others I'm missing?

I disagree on both of those actually. I can't think of any.

I agree with both of those, but I have a feeling that when I eventually see TDKR as much as I have seen TDK, I will go back to liking TDK better. I've only seen TDKR twice so far. TNT will inevitably play it for entire weekends at a time soon in the future.

The Star Wars prequel trilogy got progressively better, but that isn't saying much because the Phantom Menace sucked.

The Bourne Trilogy got better I thought (4th movie doesn't count)

Toy Story also

Original Star Wars trilogy is very close but the Empire Strikes back was too good.

The feduciary success of the Penatentary series alowed the directors to buy more attractive and talented actresses in each film. By the time they made the third film you could really relate to the anguish of the inmates when the guards violated their human rights.

I don't agree with either of those.

How about The Man with No Name Trilogy? I can't actually judge it myself since I haven't watched For a Few Dollars More, but The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is a better film than A Fistful of Dollars.

Exactly how I feel. It's undoubtedly one of the greatest trilogies of all time, but it did not fall within my parameters.

It's rare that a trilogy series may ever get progressively better

I have no idea about the films you're talking about. I'll check it out.

No way Smokey and the BAndit 2 is better than Smokey and the BAndit 1.

Bond Films... Well, I have only one problem with them in that they have no continuous overarching theme.

hey sorry for being a jerk up in here. My suggestions were not sincere. I would submit the Toy Story series as a legit submission.

Lotr is a possibility. As for the Bourne series, ultimatum was the worst of the first 3

I agree with LOTR, disagree with Batman

TDK > TDKR = BB

I might have to say both Star Wars trilogies even though I know a lot of people here don't like Return of the Jedi as much.

Possibly Die Hard? (excluding the new ones they've made) I liked the 3rd one the best but the 1st is still probably better than the 2nd

Back to the Future. The third one was my favorite, although the second was the worst of the three.

I think you meant to say 'trilogy that progressively got worse'
