Am I the only one that sided with the citizens of Elysium and not the illegals trying to break into their private property and take what isn't theirs? I wanted Matt Damon to fail so badly.

ETA: That is not a spoiler as that was the premise in the trailer.

Congrats on seeing through the socialist agenda.

Right there with you brother. I still cannot, for the life of me, understand what was so wrong with what the people on Elysium were doing, and why they deserved to be "taken down"

I agree. I was baffled. I kept thinking, "Why don't these lazy bastards start their own businesses and compete? At least have some pride and clean up the graffiti and garbage these guys live in." Upward mobility was obviously possible as evidenced by the doctors and nurses living on Earth that were not citizens of Elysium.

That movie was straight up propaganda. Never take your political opinions from people who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

At least it did not make the studio nearly what they were hoping for. Considering the cut of the box office the studio got to keep, the marketing budget, and whatever points various actors or the director got on top of the $115M production budget, it probably was pretty close to just break even.

I agree with you guys but I do think that it was more supposed to be more about the chick and him getting healed than taking down the rich.

It felt very socialistic and I'm fairly liberal.

I couldn't see why the rich wouldn't share their healing machines. That's a straight dick move. A sense of decency and humanity is what they were missing.

This is exactly what I took away from the movie. They didn't give a frick about earth other than the slave labor. They had the capabilities (as seen at the end with the medical ships) to heal the people of earth and create some normal decent society, but they were rich, snobby, and entitled and above all greedy.

Reminds me of the Nihilists on The Big Lebowski. "It's not fair!!!"

Survival of the privileged. The ones born on Elysium had nothing to do with their place in life.

It's Blompcamp(sp) what do you expect. His movies are about the white devil holding brown people back. Pretty much everyone on earth besides Damon was of some ethnic background and everybody on Elysium was white or Asian. He is not subtle at all in his agenda.

The only thing I would say, is it looks like their healing machine is a pretty easy thing to use, and does not seem to use up a whole lot of resources (don't know how). There was no reason that those couldn't have been used on earth, and they just made Elysium a rich person paradise where you had to have X amount of money to live. That was the only thing they did that I didn't agree with, once those machines were so easily available.

The end sequence could have been done one saturday, and the entire movie would basically be pointless.

I think the hot chick in the bikini that got in the med tube at the beginning was Asian.

I don't mind political commentary in film but this dude does it ham handed with a sledgehammer.

That was the whole point. To make the rich look evil because they are hording all the good stuff for themselves. Terrible movie.

Gee, b/c the rich hoarding the wealth and resources while giving the middle finger to the masses has NEVER happened at all in the history of the world.

Some of y'all really need to get the frick over this dumbass black and white interpretation of everything that a-hole politicians promote to keep themselves in office.

yep that is why the movie Elyisum was realistic because..you see when you get too rich you become decedant and the poor in masses will outnumber you and take from you what they want...

It comes back to the age old golden rule. Might make right.

Poor country have the military ability to take down a rich country and use the resources for themselves. they would do so... Ghengis Khan and his Mongolians took form a fat and rich China.

Vandal, Jutes, Saxons, Picts, Scotts, Visigoth, Ositgoth all took from rich fat Rome because their might make it right.

If anything the message of the movie was "Might make right, take it if you have the power."
