Oh and Creighton is dead.

Are we absolutely sure?

I know they said they pulled a body out of the Mississippi River, and they showed his "suicide note" in wallet in his glove compartment. But, she hasn't identified the body yet.

If they go thru all that and then have a case of mistaken identity, I would be pretty pissed. Just saying. Hopefully Simon doesn't resort to Soap OPera type gimmicks.

Its just a fact that several people committed suicide after the storm even people who didn't really have that much bad fortune (ie Goodman's character was better off than 95% of the people in NO after the storm). The last episode really portrayed his character as a coward.

The flashback did a really good job of conveying how all of the main characters lives have changed since Katrina. You have the people like the Chief and the lawyer who are fighting to get their way of life back. To some extent, you could throw Steve Zahn's character into this category although he has a much different fight. Then, you have people who have given up, like John Goodman. And then you have people in the middle or those who have been victims of circumstances following Katrina (the cook, LaDonna).

The Daymo part of the flashback was excellent. The cop was just doing his job and Daymo was just doing a favor for the cook. Anything happens differently and he lives. I thought it was an excellent wrap-up to the season. I think this show will probably need to do well at the Emmys to have a long shelf life. Hopefully, the shame of not voting for the Wire will get this some nominations.

Also, I love David Morse and I thought it was odd that he was in about four scenes the entire season. He did a good job of offering a counterpoint for the NOPD so it wasn't just cop bashing. I'd like seeing him in it more, if only for selfish reasons.

They showed the TP article saying that it was Creightons body that was pulled out of the river.

I love this show, and I am happy to see that other people like it too, because there is a thread that is about 6 pages of people bashing the show. Honestly, I love New Orleans, and while it may be boring sometimes, I love the fact that there is a show about New Orleans, plain and simple.

the flashback scene was excellent.

and the whole finale was pretty good. I agree, prob the best episode of the 1st season.

I thought it had lost me for a minute there, but i think the Finale has pulled me back in.

I didn't read the article. I saw the headline saying he was dead. But, I was waiting for his wife to go identify the body, and then for her to say that it wasn't him.

When they didn't even do a body identification scene (like they did for Day-Mo), I just thought it was a little fishy given the "cliffhangeresque" endings many of these shows like to leave with. And, getting rid of your biggest star in such a fashion just seems odd. But, who knows, maybe John Goodman just has a few movies lined up and needed to get out of the series.

Since several days have passed it would be almost impossible to explain his absence so he is dead.

Also it would be highly unlikely that someone else weighing in at 400 pounds happened to be found in the river.

I thought last week that maybe it wasn't a suicide but nothing I saw last night led me to believe he could possible still be alive.

I did think that they might be setting us up with the identification scene, but they never showed it and I am pretty sure at least one day passed if not more from the mention of the body being found until the end of the episode.

Farewell Creighton.

Like I said earlier, if Simon brings him back in anything but a flashback scenario then he loses a TON of respect from me.

And why would he have written the "I Love You" note in his wallet? The speculation that he is not dead is a little ridiculous. I know a lot of people, myself included, really enjoyed his character because we could identify. I am not an aspiring cook or indian chief or music junky so seeing a family similar to mine was really interesting.

Thats what I loved about the show. I didn't dwell on the hoakie scenes were people were fake smiling, clapping to the music. It was the sense of connection and belonging with a show that wasn't on some local public access station but the TV megapower HBO. Pretty damn cool.

The long lines at the gas station with the $6.79/gallon pricing brought back some back memories.

Heh, don't think that gas was that high in the dust bowl of St Rose with Katrina coming in. Funny to see everyone evacuating through St. Charles Parish on the river road though. Good luck moving all those cars through the spillway road.

Thought the finale was very good. The flashback scenes were surreal and I am looking forward to Davis and Annie next season. (Davis actually became an enjoyable character at the end of the season, and Annie is a talented cutie, even if she needs to get some f'in self esteem already.)

I know others complain about it,, but I LOVE the music in this show,, and while at times this first season things kinda dragged, they did seem to be setting up Mardi Gras and St Jospephs day (?) for a while,, so now that that has happened maybe things can pick up

I find most of the characters interesting enough

Beyond the artists performing their already recorded works in the show, some of the original music in the show has been great too. The little I heard of Steve Earle's original song in the credits last night was very very good. (It was the song his character was writing in episode.) Boutte's Treme song is an enjoyable New Orleans style pop song. The in-show versions of Indian Red (which is never sung the same way twice it seems) played last night and on the earlier episode were awesome.

Even after Katrina when tons of gas stations were closed and oil prices spiked it never got close to that level.

If they had tried to charge 6.50 for gas during an evacuation they would have been jailed.

My favorite episode. Sorry about the Goodman character though. I will watch the next season if there is one.
