Of all the things to complain about this one is dumb.
We all know Han won the ship from Lando and he's a flashy kinda guy.. It would make perfect sense that his personal ship would be modified to something sleek, unique and what have you.. Thus giving us this design set before us.
Han upon winning said ship and having questionable work ethic would be inclined to modify it back as to not stand out from other yt's.
OR
I could be completely wrong.. who knows

Well the books are gone. We met Han in Star Wars when the Falcon had been his for a good while and on a downside of his smuggling career.
We know Lando is flashy, even without the Lady Luck canon anymore. He probably had the Falcon set up as a pleasure barge and sex appeal.
Han knocks of the added room, adds smuggling cubbies, and makes her an even faster but less identifiable freighter again. You gotta remember Han at the point we met him and chewie was a truck driver who just lost the meth he was supposed to be dropping off.
