*Long time Lurker.* I know this doesn't really fall under the topic but this idea always makes me think of District 9. The first half is just so smart, creative, and well done, but it just loses steam in the second half.

Though it doesn't really "nosedive" in the last act, I remember leaving the theater thinking of what could have been. Goes from being "great" to just being "good".

Adam Lippe I think said it best "The disconnect between the first and second half of the movie shows you how great District 9 could have been, if Jackson and his financial backers had allowed it, instead of what it is, exciting, but with nothing lingering in the mind after it was over."

Here is the full review for those interested: FULL REVIEW

Jack Reacher was never great, but the first half was good and it nosedived.

this is the correct answer. Almost unbelievable how bad the last act is.

No worse than the first two. This movie is the apotheosis of The Idiot Plot. I genuinely regret watching it last night.

BMAC hit the nail on the head

The Departed got more and more stupid till the bitter end where Scorsese insulted us with the rat on the fence

=/= nosedive. The twists in all of those movies were welcome. I still like watching the end of Suspects even though I've seen it a ton of times. The coffee mug scene is wonderfully done.

This doesn't really count, but after the "Oh shite!" moment in Ghostship, the rest of the movie seemed a little disappointing.

The last Indiana Jones really shite the bed. It was already not that great, but the last part of that movie was flat out raw sewage.

Bingo. Went from a really interesting premise to an action movie.

Apatow didn't make Superbad. Seth Rogan and his buddy did. Apatow made have been a producer, however.

Jeepers Creepers. It was actually suspenseful and creepy until they showed the monster, then it got campy and stupid.

I feel the same way about House on Haunted Hill.

It is Spock's eyebrow is an idiot. The last act is below the rest of the movie but in no way did it ruin the rest of it for me.
