I HATED the final scene in The Abyss theatrical version. Looked awful and ruined the rest of the movie
Oh wow. I thought The Abyss was perfect.
What about it ruined the movie for you?

SPOILERS, seems unnecessary at this point but I don't want to ruin anyone's day.
The end of Looper is pretty poor I think. I wouldn't say the "final act" is bad but the end is just rushed. It felt like the director didn't know how to end it and just said frick it kill yourself.

The ending for Looper was weak for me as well. Just because it didn't really do enough to keep you from thinking how it will end and figuring it out. The good ones have you so engaged that you aren't even trying to put the pieces together.

Insidious, though I still really liked it.

Thelma and Louise. Just drive off a giant canyon.
So dumb.

The huge foam rubber alien. I think the special effects budget ran out or something. So it's not the scene per say... but its execution.

quote:Yeah I concur with this one. Good movie that went in a strange direction in its last act.
I'll submit that Sandler flick Funny People. I thought the first half was very funny then the last 45 mins I was wondering wtf happened to the movie I was watching for the first hour.

I don't remember that for some strange reason. I only saw the Abyss on video. Was that part cut out for the VHS release?

Yeah. They had some great effects in that movie. Way ahead of their time. I guess if they went the foam alien route, it would probably have been for budget reasons.

I think she's talking about the ship that came out of the water. There's 2 versions of the Abyss, one with an ending that was a good bit longer. The ship may have only been in the extended cut (along with a giant wave the aliens create to take out SF). Been forever since seeing either, but I remember preferring the original version.
And I know it's not going to be a popular movie here, but I thought Crazy Stupid Love was a good, albeit generic, romcom that had a dogshit final 20 minutes.

Thought Sunshine as well when I read the subject. Not that the final act was terrible, just not nearly as good as the rest.

Most Judd Apatow movies. I know this gets mentioned a lot but most of his movies would be improved by taking out at least a quarter of the movie on the back half. Superbad is a great example. When I still had cable I would watch about the first forty five minutes of the movie and then lose interest every time.

Sunshine wins the award. Not even close. It was such a great movie with fantastic atmosphere then it plummeted to unwatchable with a lame ending.

Sunshine.
On it's way to becoming my #1 science fiction movie of all-time and then becomes a freaking slasher film in the final act. Even so...the first two acts, combined with the film's last ten minutes, still make it one of my favorite movies released in 2007.
This is the only answer. And yes it's still an awesome movie.

Jeepers Creepers.
It was actually suspenseful and creepy until they showed the monster, then it got campy and stupid.

i find this to be the case in a lot of indie movies
There you are going along, the acting, the story, everything is going well. It's realistic, the characters are relatable, the plot isn't absurd....then BAM final act and some super weird crap starts happening that doesn't happen in real life and we're supposed to just accept it
annoys the crap out of me
