And the critics are raving. While they acknowledge that the film is "military propaganda" (I shite you not, that's what some of the critics are saying), they are also calling it a superior film to the 1986 original.

The Critics' Consensus:

quote:

Top Gun: Maverick pulls off a feat even trickier than a 4G inverted dive, delivering a long-belated sequel that surpasses its predecessor in wildly entertaining style.

To be fair, the first one was partly made as a recruitment film for the Navy. I find it hard to believe that this one won't have a similar sensibility.

I have no issue for a movie saying America is great or that our brave boys are great

So far 15 reviews are on Rotten Tomatoes and it's at 100%.

For the record, there’s a lot of overly positive review sites listed, like Collider and Comic Book Dot Com, which usually whore themselves out for positive reviews so they can attend VIP screenings and get exclusive swag.

But the San Francisco Chronicle is listed as well, so that’s a legit positive review.

Oh, so it is going to be good, then.

I was worried this would be a SJW tale of American oppression.

Honestly a good old fashioned “America frick yea!” movie would be great right now. Every movie Hollywood puts out right now shits on this country in some manner.

There is a comment on one of the trailers on YouTube from a current naval aviator who says when he saw the original as a youth he decided then he would be a flyer. So frick yes, 'Merica!!
