Rodney Dangerfield
Don Rickles
Geroge Carlin
Richard Pryor

No. 5 could be several of those already mentioned but I'll go with Norm McDonald. RIP

My favorites:

Seinfeld-saw him live. hardest ive ever laughed
Ron White-best of the redneck comics. I know a lot of rednecks
Rock-HBO 90s specials were great
Burr-Only white comic with balls. Says a lot of non PC stuff but probably gets a pass being married to a black woman.
Tom Segura: not a goat but Iike Ron white I identify with a lot of his material

I know it’s a reach, but in my mind Doug Stanhope is right up there with all of those guys

[quote]„I'm drinking Jack and I started blacking out. You ever black out? Or as I call it, time travel? You ever do that? Oh yeah! You know how it is -- you're drinking, you black out. You wake up, you're in another bar. You're drinking, you black out. You wake up, you're playing that knife game with a half-Indian somewhere in North Dakota, "Yeah! Yeah! Winner fixes the tranny! Yeah". You're drinking, you black out. You wake up, you're in White Castle -- working there 3 years, STILL not assistant manager. Your buddies tell you to quit, but you can't 'cause you're banging the slow girl on the fry-o-later. They say she's a little retarded, but those titties ain't retarded!“

Ron White

I find him funny but he’s been telling the same jokes forever. Go listen to his early stuff, it’s the jokes only in a twang while wearing a cowboy hat. He’s definitely polished his act over the years.
His Dr. Phil and squirrel man jokes are two of the funniest stories I’ve ever heard

Too many great ones that I had a hard time leaving out.

Bob Newhart
Eddie Murphy
Kathleen Madigan
Lewis Black
Bernie Mac
Louis CK
Ricky Gervais
Eddie Griffin
Bill Cosby
Norm Macdonald
Kevin Hart
George Lopez

All of those are up there, all great

But I had to choose 5, and I did

Huge named comedians I have never personally liked, based solely on their stand-up:

Cedric the Entertainer
Brian Regan
Jim Gaffigan
Robin Williams
Kat Williams
Gabriel Iglesias

My top 5 are not necessarily my favorites. Really like Bill Burr and John Pinette. But Eddie Murphy’s bit about Aunt Bunny and the family BBQ. Is probably my all time favorite

His stand up wasn't great? You serious? I even listed one of his stand up bits among my favorites all time.

When it comes to stand up, Andy Kaufman's work is similar to experimental films in movies. Not everyone will get them, but they are still brilliant.

That is correct

Yes

There is a good reason why he is listed as one of the best comedians of all time, but never as one of the best stand ups of all time.

The old "you just aren't smart enough to get it" argument.

Carlin
Chapelle
White
Pryor
Macdonald

No particular order. The hardest I've ever laughed is probably Ron White's Dr. Phil story and Pryor's recounting of his heart attack and setting himself on fire while freebasing.

We'll have to agree to disagree because I think his stand up is way better than his television stuff.

I've watched the man intentionally bomb a stand up act for 7 minutes just so he could pretend to have a melt down on stage that morphed into a song.

I've watched him do his stand up act in a foreign language for over 5 minutes, acting as if the audience is responding normally to him.

He once started reading a book on stage, when he got booed for dragging it out for too long, then started to play a recording of him reading the same book.

Richard Pryor and George Carlin in the top two spots for sure for me. I'd include Robin Williams and Ron White in the top 5. Not sure of the final place. Cheech and Chong had some good stuff on albums back in the day, but I can't say I've ever seen them do stand up technically.
