I think they’re talking about “the assassination of Jesse James by the coward…. “
It had Casey Affleck and Brad Pitt in it if I remember right.

Unforgiven is the greatest western of all time.
True Grit with John Wayne
Silverado is also a great one as well
Tombstone is pretty darn good, but Unforgiven is a major cut above it.

Thanks. I should have picked up on that. Thanks again. Always looking for good westerns. Some of the newer stuff have good ideas but the filming is horrible and looks so fake.

1. Once Upon a Time in the West, I have stated several times that it is not only my favorite western, it is my favorite movie period of all time.
2. The Wild Bunch
2A. The Searchers
I flip flop back and forth on these two hence the numerical designations.
Bonus comments
4. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I actually think the True Grit remake is better than the John Wayne one.

Agreed. A little more humor than in the original
Support your local sheriff is in my opinion funniest western I’ve seen with James garner and jack elam

Once Upon a Time in the West: sometimes my GOAT of any genre
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Unforgiven
Honorable mention that no one else is going to pick: The Good, The Bad, and the Weird

Blasphemy to some, but I prefer True Grit 2.0 over the original.

For a Few Dollars More
Open Range
One of the John Ford Cavalry Trilogy - probably She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
(ETA: can I add Blazing Saddles?)

Of the ones that haven’t been mentioned much, I would nominate The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Three under-seen classics that deserve mention with all the big guns already named here:
Day of the Outlaw
The Naked Spur
The Big Country
My favorite western from this century is the Tommy Lee Jones-directed The Homesman. It's absolutely brutal.
