Not really. It’s heavily skewed to movies that came out during the internet age, which is raises suspicion for a list assembled from tabulated votes submitted on the Internet.

Edit: Definitely some recency bias in there, is what I mean.

Still haven't seen 5 & 6.

Not sure, even as a Tolkien fan, I'd rate ROTK over Fellowship, but impressed both made the list.

I feel there's at least a couple I'd swap out, but that's certainly a class of elite films.

Terrible list. Most of those, while good movies, are nowhere near the top ten best movies ever made.

That’s an interesting way to put it. Or 6 out of 10 are from 1993 or later. (1990 is roughly is the start of the Internet age.)

The list reeks of a bunch college-aged males thinking that the 90s and 00s-era movies (IMDB’s heyday) they were watching in their early 20s were “awesome” or “sweet”...before they got a chance to see some of the movies from the 60s and 70s.

Edit: Let me preface this first by acknowledging how much I really like Shawshank.....

...But it got a lot of help from being released just as the internet was taking off and got a lot of votes from IMDB users as they were discovering it on TNT and TBS. It received a large influx of votes from internet users too young to have seen some of the great movies of the pre-Internet era.

(In case this needs to be pointed out, the Internet community skewed *really* young up until recently. Now, every 70 year old has a smart phone and a Facebook account. In 1998 and up to 2008, it was mostly twenty somethings.)

It's not a bad list. It's just a list.

That looks more like a list of stuff i would actually want to watch rather than a best of all time. Still not terrible.

It’s pretty bad. Only one Christopher Nolan film on that list.

To be fair it is the top “rated” list. People are unlikely to rate something they don’t watch. And most people are more likely to watch newer movies. Also when people rate movies, many are likely rating it by itself not in comparison to a another movie.

Point is ratings don’t necessarily mean best or worst. People may vote based on enjoyment for example. And this list is not just best all time, it’s best rated on IMBD of all time

It's not a terrible list, and would be a good start for debates. I think most people would remove Dark Knight and bump one of the LotR movies off and replace them.

Not a good list at all.

Just a hind but number 10 on the list does not make my top 100 of all time.

I first made my top 100 of all time in 1974.

Number 9, 6, 2 and 1 make my all time list.

Honestly Lord of the Rings is just one massive film just like the book is. I don’t think they should be separated, since Fellowship is clearly Act 1, The Two Towers through the Battle of Pelennor Fields/Shelob’s Lair is Act 2, and the Tower of Cirith Ungol through the end is Act 3.

I would replace with dark Knight with original Star Wars
and one of LOtR with Jaws.

I would prefer Godfathers & LOTR to be combined, drop Dark Knight & 12 Angry Men and add 4 different films more deserving.
