Looks like Jack is teaming up with actress Noomi Rapace in the second season. I don't know if she's an antagonist or not.

Is this show any good? Been thinking about starting it.

Season one was solid IMO.

It was good. Definitely better than I expected.

I dunno. It's preachy and there's some "western guilt" aspects to it, as though you should feel bad for being a westerner or american. There's also this ongoing subtle theme that mean and racist Europeans created the terrorist who's reaking so much havoc. Also the terrorist is written as a very sympathetic character who we must try and understand.
Also, James Greer is muslim in the show. It's as though they're trying to tell us "muslims are patriots too" or some shite like that.
This show really wants to teach you some sort of lesson. If you're open to that, you'll probably like it.

It's pretty good. The whole drone pilot storyline was odd to say the least, and it is a tad weird Greer is a Muslim but the action scenes are top notch.
If I remember correctly they couldn't get the license for Clark, so they just kind of have him but with no name.

Cool trailer. Can’t wait to see it 752 more times before the season comes out.

It’s very, modern.
Krasinksi spends a lot of his time wringing his hands like Lady MacBeth. And while Wendell Pierce works hard, he’s miscast as Greer.
Pierce was perfect as a cop in a hopelessly corrupt Baltimore, but here it doesn’t work. It’s especially true in the scenes that call for physicality. He’s too fat, and too old. He also just doesn’t look or act like a spook.*
It isn’t well grounded in the trade either, but it’s also just television.
I do find realism compelling though because it imposes rules on the writers, and creates dramatic tension.
I don’t want to be uncharitable, but JR struck me as the pajama boy version of a Tom Clancy series, and designed to be equally appealing to men and women alike.
Compare that to Hunt for Red October, which is an unapologeticly male movie and makes no effort to dumb things down or apologize for itself.
One of the major problems with this glut of premium TV is writing.
There aren’t enough people in LA who can turn out a serviceable script, but the studios don’t care because they just need content. JR isn’t the worst thing you’ll watch, but the characters are poorly developed and the dialogue is bad.

From a portraying military operations aspect, it is terrible. They sorely need a consultant for the military scenes. A secret base in the Middle East? Just let Haji drive up to the gate! Tons of plot holes. It's OK if you can get past that stuff.
The scene where they send a Coast Guard helicopter to pick him up was the worst.
1. He's in the local area during a weekend date
2. Needed back at work ASAP
3. So instead of calling him and telling him to hightail it to work, they take the time to gin up a mission, get clearance to land, pick him up and take him back to work. It would have taken hours to get all that done, he drove there on a day trip, it would have been much quicker for him to drive back.

If you haven't seen it, skip jack ryan and watch the patriot. Really terrific show. Jack ryan is pretentious, contrived and condescending.

I hate when writers do that, it's lazy, it's dumb, it's the mark of hack. It's someone who just doesn't care, or isn't qualified to be there.
They wrote that entire scene around the helicopter, wether it made sense or not.
And they do the same thing with his commute to work.
It's a continual problem through the show. They undermine dramatic tension, and pull viewers out of the scene, by resorting to these dumb show pieces that defy logic.
A good writer creates a consistent set of rules for the story. And that's what creates dramatic tension. When the viewer understands the rules of the world, they can predict the costs of certain behaviors. People with a casual awareness of the Washington area would understand that helicopter sequence is silly.
Plus the Coast Guard?
I'm guessing the rental fee was lower.

Is the show good?.... I found it entertaining.
As some people point out, there wasn't a lot of attention to detail on a lot of the minutia, the tech and the operational aspects of the military or the CIA. Usually, that's no biggie, for either a movie or a tv show.
But the catch with this is, that was the calling card for Tom Clancy novels. They were sorta like someone took Jane's Weekly and put characters and a plot into it.
You don't get the same sense with this show.

Yeah...it wasn't really minutia though. There were gaping plot holes and ridiculous situations and decisions made by characters.
I found it entertaining partly because it was so terrible. I was very surprised it turned out the way it did after it was so heavily promoted. It reminded me of something you'd see on USA at 2am in the 90's.
