Don't forget Mox was the backup QB. Third string may have been a sophomore who just wasn't ready yet, so Tweeder in the Wildcat may be the only real option

On the rewatch, I thought the most ridiculous thing in the movie was the little brother with his various cults.

Varsity Blues just went off on IFC and I was looking at the cast. The actor that played the little brother has been a missing person for the last 16 years. Disappeared when he was 18 from his hometown in Washington. Bizarre shite.

Other than that, this movie will forever be awesome in all of it's late-90's glory.

Haven’t read all the thread but the strip club was def in a rival district teams town.

It was a Thursday night so njfht before the game and they were recognized by the owners and fed drinks all night. So that explains even being out of west cannon they would still be allowed in and everything is on the house since the star wr, rb, center and now qb were in that towns strip club the night before the game.

Fwiw if I owned a club and got bama players in it the night before shite would be on the house and I’d probably have a regular get in a altercation with them.

That's what any good coach would do though. Mox was undermining his authority, and without control a coach is useless

Same thing happened with Ditka with McMahon. McMahon didn't run plays Ditka wanted.

I wonder if those two were who Kilmer and Mox were based off of?

Wendell's mom doing his recruiting for him:

This was my biggest hangup in the movie. I was a HS coach for 21 years. College coaches don't listen to parents..... period. If a kid isn't recommended by a coach they don't usually pursue them. I know the movie writers probably had no clue about that but still it bothered me.

Also, how was billy bob not called as an ineligible man downfield on the hook and ladder?

But Kilmer was endangering his players consistently. He possibly lost his starting QB from it, was injected the RB, and was hard on Billy Bob when he had clear brain injuries.

maybe not with injection but this attitude was a lot more prevalent in early-mid 90s than it is today.

And if Wendell scoring TDs helps that Kilmer would be all for it.

scoring TDs helps him.
and if he can get those TDs by his superstar QB (Lance) tossing it to the cool white WR (Tweeder), the. he’s got no reason to give any glory to his black workhorse.

Tweeder would have been 3rd string behind Lance and Mox.

you’re asking the wrong question.

Billy Bob is 100% still engaged with a DL in the backfield when Mox releases the ball.

how the hell did his fat concussed arse go from engaged, to tossing the DL down, then get down field so damn fast?

If you squint hard you can see me and my grandpa in the stands. They filmed in Hutto, Texas which was the closest town to my grandpa's farm. It's next to Round Rock.

I watched it a lot because it's the only movie I'm in.

I didnt read all the posts, but good lord, the play calling in this and most other football movies remove me from being into the show.

We down by 5 with .01 to go from the 50? Time to run a reverse throw back to the QB that makes it necessary for the QB to break 5 tackles. Of course the defense is fooled by a potential run to the outside instead of a Hail Mary. Great play call, Fonzie.

Billy Bob's play where he looks lost and gets the ball. Cmon man. He is the least mobile lineman they have!

That is amazing

That scene always sticks to me. After our senior prom and breakfast that morning none of us went to bed and I remember pulling back up at my parents with the sun coming up. Good memories
