I couldn't disagree more from this take. I really couldn't. He was bit, he was never escaping his fate. He left the audio clip for his girl. He was never going to get out of Raccoon City. It doesn't happen in any of the games, any of the movies, there is no way out. There never was. He was doomed the second he chose money over dealing with his problems and being there for his pregnant wife. It doesn't make him a bad guy, but no dude, the ending was always going to happen in one way or another.
The humor was well placed, it was smart, and it was a damn breath of fresh air in a franchise that deserved a smart and interesting take on a played out story. It was scary at times, it was bizarre at times, it was funny at times, and the entire time it was non-stop. I loved it.

They've done that to death man. There are those cgi movies you can sink your teeth into. They follow the story line and are as soulless as the line deliveries from the video games. There, problem solved.

We have plenty, plenty of horror films that are straight up horror. We also have plenty of horror comedies. Evil Dead is a great example of a solid blend of both. People like levity in horror. There's nothing wrong with that, in fact, I think in many ways its necessary.
But there are literally hundreds of new movies at your disposal that are strictly horror. So what exactly is your point?
Further, the guy came from WKYK, of course he's going to throw comedy into his films. Write what you know, right? And he does a masterful job at it because, he's funny.
Same thing with Obsession. Did you really think the guy from a youtube comedy channel wouldn't, oh you know, throw in some comedy as well?

I didn’t like it. And I really wanted to.
I don’t think it was a bad movie. I do think there was a lot of fun. But I was lost with the tone and definitely felt the ending left things empty. Best way I can describe it.
It’s whatever. It’s just so so. Very strange adaptation and a “wtf” calibration between Cregger and the franchise.
But I do think some people will like it. It is fun.

This I went into this movie feeling that he was basically some dead body, Leon or Claire randomly find along the way.

There’s a world where they stick the landing, clean up some of the time/pacing, this is very close to a movie I could have loved. But the ending was so bad, it made me go back and not take everything that happened to that point seriously.

But why though? Because he didn’t survive? I just fail to see your point really. So they stick him and he miraculously changes back to normal which is ridiculous, he’s got a damn mouth in his stomach now. And then the bomb drops, ok where’s the future of the franchise then?
As to humor in horror, you have countless examples throughout all of horror that exemplify the best of combining humor and horror. To lay that on the mantle of millennials is frankly disregarding horror history to the point that I question your horror knowledge.

Well spoilers… but
There are versions of this movie where he lived or died which could have been good.
I didn’t like him turning into a monster like that in the first place. Especially that monster. Is he only along for the ride and can’t control other portions of the monster? Or is he actively a participant in killing the scientists. Either way, it’s dissatisfying.
Going down that Cameron though, what I’d prefer is he slowly starts to turn but not too bad. He sneaks by the scientists and injects himself. He stops mutating further than he does. And then the scientists horrified, point out that’s the only cure and they’ve doomed this to the rest of mankind. Cut to black. Or don’t cut to black and have a comedy bit of blowing them up now specifically because they won’t be able to have a cure

It didn't sour the whole movie but it was definitely the weakest part. Way too slapstick and goofy like it was trying to be something out of a raimi movie but not quite hitting the mark.
Overall, its still a good movie but definitely creggers weakest so far
