Thoughts on Mortal Kombat 2 (slight spoilers)

If you like cheesy, gory, martial arts movies with lots of cute women in leather, questionable acting, comedy, and style, you’ll probably like this movie.
It was a total crowd pleaser. Not everything worked, but it got the job done and I thought it was much much better than the prior movie.
The movie can verge on being too much and I did feel like the pacing was off. The best fights were earlier in the movie and the rest of the fights seem a little bit paler in comparison to one fight in particular.
But overall just fun and absolutely beautiful movie.
Saw it in IMAX and it 1. Beautiful colors. There are lots of practical things and I thought the CGI looked great minus like 2 shots 2. The sound is great for the fighting. You felt each thud
The main thing I got annoyed by is they have disguised searchlights in certain scenes of the movie for atmosphere. I just think they stand out too much.
One kinda spoiler comment:
Death has no consequence in this movie which is annoying

I enjoyed it. This movie was the loudest I have ever seen. I thought the sound system was going to explode.

I enjoyed it. Stupid yes, but fun for sure. Surprised how well they had it follow the game story. Sound work was amazing, they used a ton of the actual game sounds which hit off some major nostalgia moments.

I'm gonna go with this thread over the other one for the quality of MK2.

I think I saw you say you enjoyed the first one. I think you'll enjoy this one. It definitely does a good job feeding the nostalgia machine while not just ramming fan service down your throat.

I did read how they use Cole this in this one and it sounds AWESOME.

Cole is definitely a bad arse and his power level is way higher now.
Liu Kang was by far the most badass

I thought it was much better than the first one but not quite as good as the original. I did like that Shao Khan was an active participant in the tournament and not just the bad guy at the end.
I thought the Liu Kang Kung Lao fight was the highlight of the film, it’s not the best fight in all of these films, but it is the one that looks the most like the game and doesn’t look silly.

I don’t think any of these movies no matter how good they are will ever surpass my love for the original movie
Posted on 5/8/26 at 8:09 pm to athenslife101
most of my love for the original is down to 3 factors:
I was 8 when it came out
Veronica Vaughn so hot want to touch the hiney
the fricking theme song man!
MORTAL KOMBAT!

I was 5 when it came out and I remember seeing it in theaters and how fricking awesome the fiery logo was.

Just saw it.
And… well that was a poorly written, horribly acted, nerd-filled video game movie with overly gratuitous fighting, blood, and gore. And it was entertaining as hell!

Me and my son watched it late last night and loved it! I’m glad they killed people off, because there has to be stakes. I like how they can bring them back, because they basically do that in the game. I wasn’t a fan of Cole but man they did him awesome, he went toe to toe with Shao Kahn and technically killed him. Baraka, Kano, and Cage steal the show. Liu is beast like he should be. Loved the special cameo.
Now there was some plot holes but they did do a good job expanding the lore from the first film.
The main thing I didn’t like was the picture was really dark in my theater, some things were hard to see. But I didn’t see it in imax, so I figure it’ll be better on blu ray.
