He always brings it

He can be subdued or over the top

Never phones it in

Has a gravitas that not many do

Really enjoy his body of work

Overall I like him. My favorite role of his was in “Phenomenon” with Travolta.

He and Amy Adams are great foils to each other in Arrival. In a movie with no real villain it's just two highly capable people at slight odds with each other. They needle each other juuust enough to make their lines in the sand clear while still respecting and trying to understand what the other seeks.

Edit: actually when I think about it, his "Help me understand" when looking at the word list might be my favorite line in the entire movie. He basically says "you're the expert and I'm the one who has to answer for all this. Let's get on the same page first." He delivers it in a perfectly distilled, noninfantile, noncondescending manner.

Just for emphasis, he won the Academy Award for best actor as Idi Amin in Last King of Scotland.

He had one the worst fake Boston accents in that movie. Never understood why they had him do that - irrelevant to the story.

His guest starring role on The Shield is fantastic as well. The storyline went over a couple of seasons.

Then Vick banged his crazy ex wife and told him "Your ex wife's pussy tastes like sweet butter"
