Watched it. Was okay. Did they even explain why they were after the kid or did I just miss it?

I’m pretty deep into it and I like it a lot. I’m glad it’s more than just a fire fighter movie
Multiple reasons, for one he witnessed them murder his father and secondly in case his father gave him back ups of the evidence he had against them (which he did)

Right I get all of that but evidence of what? He was a forensic accountant who found something but did they ever say what?

I’m not sure as I’m not all the way through yet but they did say something about politicians and high up people being involved. Might just be a Mcguffin.
ETA yeah just a muguffun

No. I was hoping it would come out in the end.

Don’t even care about any of these checks. The only check you need is

Taylor Sheridan
Why? He doesn’t have a large directing resume. Decent writer, though.

His resume isn’t very long but it’s incredible. Sicario, Hell or Highwater and Wind River is one hell of a trip to start a career. That’s better than “decent”
Sheridan is on my must watch writer/director list, that’s all I need to see to know I’m watching it.
And I really enjoyed this movie, although it’s clear it wasn’t his script to start (he did extensive rewrites) so there’s moments that don’t quite live up to the level of those top 3, but was still a really fun thriller/action movie

I watched this last night with my wife and had the same question. The whole premise of the movie, chasing the accountant and kid, is barely explained. I thought it would be ok given the cast and writer, but it was awful. I thought this movie sucked. Full disclosure: i hate Angelina Jolie and think she's ruined every movie she's been in over the last ten years or so.

I dont hate Jolie, but this was a dud. She's one of the best female action stars but she is deathly skinny in this and doesnt look the part at all. Had high hopes because of Sheridan but this was a paint by numbers action movie with hardly no fleshed out plot.

I’m surprised to see the negative reactions. I thought it was pretty good.
Spoilers, probably...
I feel like they made a conscious decision not to detail the conspiracy - the story is about survival, not the conspiracy. Assuming that was their intent, though, they probably did focus a little too much on that aspect of the plot. They gave the viewer enough background to make it enticing, which distracts a bit from the survival aspect. I think ideally it’s presented in a way that you realize why they are after the kid/father in a general sense, but are so captivated by the survival story that you don’t think about it.
Anyhow I think that’s what they were going for. It wasn’t perfectly executed but it wasn’t completely botched either.
Other thoughts:
- I’m not a huge fan of Angelina Jolie and I agree that she really needed to bulk up for the role. There was a scene where her arms looked particularly skinny and I remember thinking “I’m supposed to believe that she’s a smoke jumper?” That being said, she definitely plays the PTSD/self-destructive role well and you could really feel the weight lifted from her shoulders at the end.
- The last few scenes (basically the fire and aftermath) were really well done. I have no idea whether that’s a realistic portrayal of what it’s like to be caught on the leading edge of a forest fire, but it was terrifying and fascinating.
- I thought the soundtrack/score was really good.
- I’m starting to think Aidan Gillen is a one trick pony. Part of it is that he has some difficulty hiding his accent, which is a bit distracting. But it might also be one of those cases where it’s just hard to think of him as anyone other than Littlefinger.

Thank you
I feel like if they would’ve wasted 15-20 minutes trying to explain that or add in another bad guy, the movie would only get worse due to that.
It’s a breezy 1:40 run time. You knew everything you needed to from the crash scene

The wife and I watched it this afternoon. Not bad. Kind of puzzling that the boy never bothered to mention his uncle lived there.

My good buddies wrote/recorded one of the songs on the soundtrack so I might watch just for that

Possible spoilers
I agree. I thought it was pretty entertaining. The fire at the end seemed extremely unrealistic...At least I hope so since I live in national forest with only one way out of the neighborhood
There would probably be pine needles and leaves on the ground.. I don't think it would roll through there like that with what they showed. Straight dirt on the ground.

It was entertaining the whole way through.
Think maybe the editor cut a bit too much.
Littlefinger may be typecast, but he is damn good at it.

Great resume but this one was below average at best. It was getting so bad that I expecting Howie Long to come onto the screen and save them during the fire.
