Where to start...

Young Kate in the car with Jack.... that was really special to me... she crushes that role.

the Doctor... He's the man. plain and simple.

I had a steady stream of tears flowing for the back half of the episode.

I'm an only child, not married, and the thought of laying to rest my parents, I know I won't be able to get through that , hit me so hard during this episode and some previous ones as well

This was a really great episode to me.
Not quite as sad as Memphis, but really close.

I understand this board's hate for Kate because this board is just the way it is. However, why is there not more or at least equal hate for Kevin? All 3 iterations of this character need to be kicked in the balls repeatedly to prevent him from ever breeding.

Young Kate is a heck of an actress.

The bridge scene was cute.

I was expecting more, meaning longer, from the funeral scene for some reason.

The Dr K scene was terrific. I hope we see more of him.

The problem with Kate is she makes everything about herself and her weight. All of the time. Nothing is ever good enough for her and she is way too self-centered. At times it seems that the only two people in her life she cares about are her father and Kevin, everyone else just doesn't matter.

Kevin is an addict and has definitely acted like a piece of shite, but at least is trying to redeem himself. They show little glimpses of him being a decent human being.

And Kevin doesn't?? Not only does Kevin make everything about himself but he's an absolute jerk about it in the process.

Chick's fat. It affects every aspect of her life. Every aspect. It bothered me at first that this seemed to consume her character until I stopped looking at her from my viewpoint and started looking at her life from her viewpoint. She really is just trying to live a normal life which is near impossible for her. I couldn't imagine going to audition knowing I might have trouble fitting through a door or have a chair break while sitting in the green room.

This is the exact opinion I expect from this board regarding Kate. Same way I'd describe Kevin but he doesn't catch shite for it.

And I see that. Like when he told his mother she loves Randall more than she loves him. And when he says his father was an addict and his grandfather was an addict and his sister is an addict so he must be an addict too because there's no way it's his own fault that he's an a-hole.

At least everyone agrees that Randall is the best thing about that show.

I think people will start to come around on Kate. The only thing Kevin can really do to turn things around is just start being a better person but that's not really compelling tv.

I go back and forth with Kate. I don't dislike her as much as some folks here do. I can't imagine thinking most of the my adult life that my Dad died because of me. I don't know how she lives with that thought. It doesn't seem like she's gotten enough help for that.

In the hospital when the doc said to Jack that he must really love the dog, Jack said he loves the girl who loves the dog. I wonder if Rebecca ever told that to Kate. I hope not because knowing he loved her is great, but otherwise, it would seal the deal on her believing that saving the dog killed him. I still don't know how the dog didn't die from the smoke since the dog was in there as long as Jack was.

Also, Jack didn't just go in there and save the dog. He also collected mementos he loaded in the pillowcase and I doubt all of those things were in just one place. I don't think that's been brought up, though they showed the pillowcase etc... when he was being treated by the medic.

There was also that Jack didn't go straight to the hospital. I don't know if that was a factor, but I wouldn't have taken those kids somewhere else and dropped them off before going to the hospital. They're old enough to be there waiting. Maybe it was because of the dog. Guess they couldn't bring the dog with them.

I've gone back and forth with Kevin. I was really not happy with him before now. I've warmed up to him. He had incorrect perceptions as a child that apparently needed more attention than they got and those stuck with him.

Kate is awful. How can anyone like her?

Every single scene is about her crying and being all about attention on how fat she is or how guilty she is because of her dad

She seems like a miserable person

Man, I was handling this all like a man until Dr. K showed up then I became a mentapausal woman. There is something about the wise old sage that gets me every time.

Going back to last week, how good is the writing on this show? They have Randall talk about is mortality and few episodes back and everyone starts talking about his imenant death. Then boom, we see him as an old man. I love the turns this show takes.
