My wife recently discovered this on Netflix and is now binge’ing it. Every time I walk in the room one of the characters is being a big’ol mopey life hating bitch. Especially the really fat lady. It’s insufferable. Why was/is it so popular? Terrrrible

That show blowssss. My girlfriend’s mom watches it a lot. The acting is pretty horrible and it’s way overdramatic.

I watched it and thought it was pretty good for the first couple of seasons, then started to tail off. I don’t think I could have binged it without getting annoyed. Sometimes a little space between episodes is good.

No.

It is typical, fart-sniffing, navel-gazing claptrap.

I watched it when I was married. Once I got divorced I decided to start watching it again(of which season I don't remember) I made it through a few episodes and said that I would catch up later.... still haven't.

First few seasons were well made

Then it became pretty woke and focused more on fat and women shaming. And every other episode was another storyline about how the black brother was always mad because everyone was racist. They played up the BLM big time

This.

GF and I have been watching it- I enjoyed the earlier seasons, but we've made it to Season 5, which was the 2020 year, and it's basically unwatchable with COVID and BLM.

The original plan was the fat girl was going to get gastric bypass (in real life and producers would pay for it) as part of the show. The “you’re perfect as you are!” crowd chimed in so they scraped it and she stayed enormous.

Yep, not even a question. The pretty boy has his shirt off in literally every other episode.

Timing probably. Parenthood went off the air like a year earlier so it filled that niche. And Gilmore Girls "Team Jess" fans wanted to see Milo in something new.

of course it's horrible

My wife watched it and loved it. Now she has to watch every tv show/movie that any of the main 5 characters are in.

This show was well produced, well acted and well written melodrama. I give credit where it is due in that they were skillful in every aspect of the series; however, it was all a façade to sell over the top melodrama. My wife and kids watched this when it was airing, and it drove me nuts the few times they made me watch with them. Melodrama is one of the worst plot devices in story telling.
