How does someone her age have a 15 year old grand daughter? Ciri was born when she was 25-30?
She gave birth to Pavetta at 19, Pavetta was pregnant with Ciri at 15, Ciri is 12 at the start of the novels. So yes, she is a grandmother in her mid 40s during the fall of Cintra.
And she is known as the Lioness of Cintra for her bravery and winning her first battle when she's 15, her being a warrior isn't mentioned one way or another, but her being in battles with her army is straight from the books.
She doesn't want Ciri to go to Geralt until the last minute due to having no choice, they had to harp on the Destiny stuff because they made the decision to change it so Geralt met Ciri for the first time in the last episode (which was dumb IMO, but the showrunner said she did it so she could have all three main characters in the show start to finish).
The rent in the ground was a change for sure, but acting like Ciri couldn't possibly do something like that is silly (her mother would have destroyed an entire castle when trying to protect Duny if Geralt and Mousesack hadn't been there).

Just finished the 1st season. I loved it, only took me 1 week to watch them all and I bought the game today. SPOILERS BELOW
There were several things I didnt understand. Why do they keep talking about cintra spending all this time building walls if they're just gonna meet the nilfgard out in the field? Also why does Geralt suddenly care so much about ciri towards the end? And why does he have to claim her with the law of surprise? Can't he claim anything else like money or a sword or something? Why not teleport to strodden instead of taking the boat or teleport to the top of the mountain with the dragon. I also didnt understand the doppler. Can he take someone's skin without killing them? And why did they leave Ciri tied to a tree, take her skin, and then go fight the nilfgard dude? That scene confused me

Sounds like you didn’t pay attention when you watched the show.

Careful, if you are critical or have any kind of misgivings about this show you will be scorned by the sheep that carry this thread. "Its the most true to the story of any show ever!"
" The majority of the first season is inspired by events detailed in the two short story collections, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. And while showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich sticks fairly closely to the main narratives laid out in Sapkowski's books, there are a ton of differences sprinkled throughout this first season."

More like if you complain about something and then are asked to clarify and you spew a bunch of BS, you are going to get called out for it.
By the standards you are trying to use there has never been a book to film/TV translation that was good ever.
There are plenty of legit reasons to criticize the show, it's hardly perfect. For example the CGI as mentioned needs some work, which is weird considering the kind of budget they were supposedly working with.
But the stuff you were criticizing was pretty trivial or straight up bogus.

Dopplers can basically mimic anyone they see, they don't have to kill anyone. As the guy who recruiting him mentioned, he was a unique Doppler in that he was a murderer/serial killer.
With portals the magic user needs to know where they are going/have been there to open a portal, so it wouldn't have worked for the dragon since they didn't know where it was. Typically the portals are small and can only carry a person or two as well, so carrying supplies would have been difficult. Though I agree that with Sodden no portals was kinda weird.
The law of surprise is just random, if Duny had gone home and found out his dog had a new puppies, Geralt could have gotten a new dog, instead it was Ciri. Geralt was always worried about her ( hence his concern about her being in danger in earlier episodes), he just didn't want to claim responsibility for her.

Dont be a dick. I havent played the games or read the books and it's pretty fair to say that it can be hard to catch everything the first time in a show that installs an entirely new world using names of people and places that you've never heard before and magic that you don't know the rules to.

Thanks for the insight. Seems like destiny has a bigger role in this show than probably any I've seen.

Yeah, It's a pretty huge theme in one of the two short story books (Sword of Destiny). Due to their efforts to make Ciri a character all the way through the first season rather than have her show up halfway through, they had to change a couple things and the way they handled the destiny and surprise aspect came off a little clunky and less natural than it should have because of it, and rushed. That was my one major issue with season 1 in the changes they made.

I was pretty close to giving up on the show after the first 2 episodes but it did get much better as the season went on.

I think you meant Pavetta. Also, are we sure Duny is Ciri's father? (Witcher 3 reference)

No, I meant Ciri. If her mother has the powers to do this she likely does too. Trying to avoid book and game spoilers here in a TV thread.
As far as her father goes, it's definitely Duny. But I guess you aren't aware of who Duny actually is in Witcher 3?

She was suprised by Pavettas power, not ciris

What? The guy I was originally responding to was complaining about Ciri tearing huge rents in the ground being too much. I was saying that it wouldn't be out of bounds for Ciri to display that kind of power because her mother Pavetta had already shown castle destroying power in an earlier episode.

My only association to the show is the show. So I have nothing to compare it to but really enjoyed the season and the story building.

Started watching this last week and finally finished it. Never played the games or read the books so it was a kinda confusing for a while. I must've missed something, why does the Witcher put up with Jaskier? He seems to annoy him so why doesn't he tell him to frick off? Oh and Yennifer has great tits.

I’m loving the show but there are some clear story telling issues. It was not clear at all when they were switching timelines until much later. Also, the names are hard to follow. I’m still not sure what’s going on other than Geralt and Yen have their own personal stories that have no real complexity to it but still enjoyable. Ciri or whatever the princesses name is, I just don’t know what’s going on and who the black army is.
All of this.
Love the show. Just like GOT first season, this series will force me to go read the books so I'll be better prepared going forward. I've made it through episode 6. Look forward to finishing season one tonight.

Well he quite literally does tell him to frick off at one point.
But to answer your question, Jaskier is basically his best friend, despite his protests
