In that order. Boardwalk Empire is a good show but it doesn't compare to the other two.

I prefer The Sopranos to The Wire.

Watch all of the Soprano's now. Once you're finished you can catch up on Boardwalk before the next season. After the next season of Boardwalk you can watch all of The Wire. That way you see all 3, you're caught up on new episodes, and save the best for last.

Although I'm not quite finished with The Wire, I believe it is just a little better than Sopranos.
However, having said that (and BE has more episodes to be made), I would watch them in the order I will end up having watched them - Sopranos, The Wire, THEN Boardwalk Empire.

w/o spoiling anything, does season 2 of The Wire get better? I'm on episode 5 and really seems to be dragging. I've heard 3 and 4 are legit.

I think all 5 seasons are a slow burn. This isn't Lost with cliffhangers every episode.
With that said, I know a lot of people don't care for season 2 for the first time around but it defnitely comes around. It's my second favorite after season 4.

And to answer the OP's question, I've only seen The Wire and Boardwalk and the former is definitely above the latter.

I felt the same way when I watched it. You have to keep in mind that each season is from a different perspective as the other. They are all necessary to the overall show. I think the problem is that I wanted season 2 to be like season 1 more than anything.

I found the pacing a little slow in both Season 2 and 4. 2 picks up more than 4 does, but I think 2 was a little slower to start. Part of the problem is that we didn't know anyone at the dock. In 4, they fix that by putting a select number of characters that we already know in the school context (which helps), and we tie some of the kids to characters we already know.
2 is enjoyable, but, thus far (I'm through 4 and just started 5) it is the "most" different/foreign.

I started The Wire....I'm about 5 episodes through season 1...glad I started this show...great stuff.

I started it last week and I'm on Season 2, Episode 5. McNulty and Omar are 2 very likeable characters.

the wire is the goat. watch sopranos first, than the wire(so you arent let down by the sopranos after the brilliance of the wire). catch up with boardwalk empire after you finish those. either way, boardwalk empire is nowhere near the excellence of the other 2.
