It's not outdated. It's just now a historical snapshot. As is The Sopranos. I would love to see a new season with updated with Twitter, SnapChat, Telegram, Whatsapp, etc. and how they would address that.

The Wire is consistently ranked among the best shows of all time and most didn't watch it until after its initial run on HBO.

I think this more applies to network tv dramas. It’s a pain trying to watch 24 episode seasons. Been trying to get through The X Files and it’s taking forever.

I'm assuming you mean "in America." You may not be aware, but the "Hamsterdam" story itself was either based on or heavily informed by "Needle Park" in Zurich, Switzerland, although the title may be referencing the perception of more liberal drug laws in places like Amsterdam.

And, yes, even in clean, well-run, hygienic Switzerland, it turned out about how you would think.

It won't blow you away as being the TV series if that's what you are expecting. Season 1 and 2 will have you wanting more but it's downhill from there. It's a good series but if anyone tells you it's great, they are fooling you. It's not.

Season 3 is on of the best TV seasons ever. Season 4 is utterly heartbreaking.
Season 5 is mediocre, mainly because the first four seasons are so great.

The best part about the whole series. If it wasn't for him and McNulty the series would be shite. I watched it once and I have no desire to watch it again. It wasn't good enough for a re-watch.

What do you consider 'great' TV series?

Breaking Bad was much better than The Wire Imo. GOT was great until they fricked up the end. I watch what most here recommends. I started Ozark but quit watching it for no reason at all. Yellowstone is up there.

I won't waste my time with Walking Dead.

I just don't get the hype about the Wire. It was entertaining at times and then felt like a chore to get through.

It's a Top 3 all-time show. The acting/characters are incredible.
