I’ll start by saying that I have not watched this movie. I will eventually when it streams because I try to watch all the Oscar nominees and this one is widely considered to be Inside Out 2’s strongest competitor for Animated Feature. It’s from Chris Sanders, the co-creator of How To Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch. It did well for a non-franchise animated movie, but it didn’t come close to the same box office success as Inside Out. That said, it’s making up for it with universal acclaim from critics and audiences. Between this and Transformers One, it seems there are two high quality animated films currently in theaters that are flying under the radar.
From what I can tell, it isn’t woke. But if it is, don’t crucify me.

I enjoyed it and so did my 5 year old daughter. It’s a shame Pixar didn’t make this movie. Dreamworks just doesn’t have the same secret sauce for subtlety of emotion and humor that Pixar does.
But overall a very solid movie. It’s essentially a movie about motherhood/parenting so if you have a soft spot for family dynamic themes you will especially enjoy it.
There is a scene at the end that appears to be the Golden Gate Bridge underwater and I chuckled thinking about people who will get hot and bothered by that.
Best part of the movie is Longneck giving a masterclass of how to turn on the rizz with a single mom.

Saw this Friday night with wife and son. We loved it. Excellent story and animation.

The robot reminds me of the Iron Giant.

I saw this movie in IMAX. I thought it sucked. It was slow. The story was not 'sophisticated,' as I've seen it described. It was boring. I yawned more in that movie than I had all week. Not a fan.

My kids (11 and 5) loved it.

Took kids to see this in a 4DX theater. Was fun. Kids absolutely loved it which is good because the tickets were about $25 per. It is a very solid but somewhat predictable movie adapted from a book series for 8-10 year olds. So if you are looking for something “sophisticated” you should probably go see a different movie.

I mean do you have kids? Maybe it’s not supposed to be overly “sophisticated.”
I read the book with my kids and that wasn’t overly sophisticated either

Good to see. My 8 year old saw the trailer months ago and marked that shite on her calendar. We'll see it over the weekend.

quote:Yes, I have two children who are not the target audience's age. Stop persecuting the 2%. It's an opinion. Feel free to enjoy whatever you enjoy. If you don't like kiddie shows, you won't necessarily like this because Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 98%. This should not be controversial.
I mean do you have kids?

Took my daughter to see it opening night. She read all 3 books and loved them. As soon as she saw they were making a movie, she added it on our family calendar. We thought it was a great movie. She's severely ADHD and it held her attention the entire movie. We even had to wait during the credits 'in case' there was a post credit scene... there was. Deservedly so, I got a "Told you!" from her.
