fwiw, I've found multiple links to download the comic books, so I'm going to hopefully read the whole thing soon

All I can say is that it would get boring if it was a show about killing zombies for 40 minutes. The zombies are always there and play major roles in the plot, but the main focus is how characters deal with one another and others they meet.
I encourage you to hold on, because the best has yet to come. Also, there is a reason the comic is so successful. It's more than just killing zombies. There are a lot of people we haven't met yet and a lot of big time events on the horizon
This is all very encouraging. I agree w/ the other poster that the sentimental stuff is needed but the ratio has just swung to much in its favor. Really looking forward to where this is headed. Hopefully they rush the second season since this was so short.

I enjoyed this episode. Though I had no great need to have the ZA explained, I was glad that they took the "show it, don't tell it" route of the transformation. Here we had not one but two versions of it - Ayme (I think that's the name of Andrea's sister) and Jim. One in the death to zombie phase, the other in the being bitten, get fever, (apparently) starting to die phase.

I love the show but fricking Christ do those stupid fricks piss me off... I spent most of last night's episode yelling "I hope that stupid fricking bitch gets bit right in the face" (while Andrea was holding her sister).
Daryl is the only one on the show capable of dealing with a zombie outbreak. You don't show compassion to anyone that is, or might be, infected. You do everything possible to save yourself... and he's the only one sensible enough to realize that.
I'm no epidemiologist but I know that any viral infection is serious shite. You have to protect every part of your body. These idiots get covered in zombie blood every freaking episode. How are they not all infected yet? I'd be wearing a face shield while hacking up walkers... a tiny bit of blood in the eyes or mouth and the virus is in you.
I recommend everyone read Richard Preston's The Hot Zone and Demon In The Freezer immediately... if the zombie apocalypse happens you need basic knowledge in virology.

Could someone direct me to sone good zombie literature, preferably something I can download through the kindle store. I need something to read at work. I think a few books have been mentioned in here, a book about important times in history with zombies subbed in, a zombie survival guide.

Finally watched the episode on Sunday night, as opposed to Monday or Tuesday...
Last night's episode disappointed me. I agree with whomever said it seemed to be a filler episode. Nothing really happened aside from them going to the CDC. The pacing of this show is really starting to bug me a little. I like that it's slow and steady, but this episode just drug the frick on for so long without getting anywhere.
Example, the whole Andrea/Amy thing...we all knew Amy was gonna turn and wake up, but it took them like 5 or 10 minutes of sappy bullshite for that to happen. It could have been done in 2. I even liked that the sister knew she had to kill her, and she ended up shooting her in the head, but it just drug on seemingly forever. Not to mention it just wasn't smart for Andrea to be all up close and personal with Amy knowing that she was turning. This quote describes exactly how I feel:
The scene with Shane and Rick in the woods was kinda WTF for me. I mean, in less than one episode, Shane is already entertaining the idea of offing Rick? Come on...they were best friends mere months ago. I know that Shane was hitting the wife and all that, but goddamn, man...that's your padna and now he's back and alive. Obviously Shane wants to be the one in charge and doesn't like Rick coming in and being sane and fair, and taking Shane's leadership role from him a bit. But still, to "almost" shoot him (almost in quotes because we don't know how close he actually came to doing so)...that's ridiculous.
We now know that the apocalypse is global. That was cool to find out.
The last ten or so minutes of the show were just weird to me. It was an entirely different presentation of the show. The whole video diary thing with the guy, his experiments, etc. Just an odd turn for the show to take. I hope that was just this episode and doesn't continue in the future, because I wasn't a fan of it. Even Rick going out of his mind for a minute didn't seem to fit anything we've seen from him up to this point. It was like I was watching a totally different show for a few minutes. Weird.
While I don't share CajunRevolution's feelings on Jim exactly, I do agree that it was extremely selfish of him to risk the entire camps' lives after he got bit. Good for the black chick ratting his arse out. In times like that, you can't afford to take any chances at all. I'm not saying they should have put a bullet in his face, but I would have told him to hit the road...or left him there when they hit the road. Yeah, it was nice that Jim eventually came around and made them leave him behind, but he should have stepped up long before that. And Shane with the "You want us to just leave him here..?..I'm not sure I'd be okay with that." No, but you were okay with almost shooting your best friend/partner in the back because he put the kabosh on your frickbuddy situation. Douche.
I hope it comes out next episode that Rick finds out about Shane and his old lady. But I seriously doubt it will...that's an overarching storyline that they will exploit as long as possible IMO. And perhaps rightfully so.
The scene with old girl pickaxing her abusive dead husband was kinda weird as well. She clearly loved him a couple of episodes ago, despite how he was. And now she's wailing away on his corpse with a pickaxe?
I also agree that next week's previews looked a bit odd...hopefully the plot actually advances a little bit, and it's not just a lot of nothing happening 20 minutes at a time.
This was my interpretation as well, that the CDC guy intentionally infected Andrea. I hope that's the case. 1. Because she sucks, and 2. because that would make for a better storyline.
Also, LSUZombie...seems like you're coming awfully close to posting spoilers up in this bitch. Be careful please, dude.

I don't think she got bit or infected prior to the CDC...I think the CDC guy infected her.
Didn't they show him giving her a shot/injection, and then she said something about "wouldn't I have had a fever....?"
I think he purposely gave it to her because his samples were destroyed...he needs new samples.

I saw him taking a blood sample.
Her asking if wouldn't she have a fever suggests that he was running blood tests to make sure they were free of infection.
My guess is that:
1) He sees something that makes him think she is infected
2) Tests her
I know she is main character in the comics, but maybe she will get offed in the finale as a shocker to even the fans.

A few I really like that you can get through the kindle store...
World War Z by Max Brooks
Day by Day Armageddon by J. L. Bourne
Day by Day Armageddon: Beyond Exile (Book 2) by J. L. Bourne
Dying to Live by Kim Paffenroth
The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead by Max Brooks
Those are in the order I enjoyed the story. World War Z is good to get an understanding of how something like this could happen. The others are journal type stories of living with the dead. There are some really good and some REALLY BAD books with very little editing.

Anybody else notice the perfectly manicured greens at the CDC? Glad to know they are finding time to cut and edge the grass in these trying times. I'm not nitpicking, but it was a wtf moment for me as they arrived at the CDC.

That's what I'm saying... all of them, with the exception of Daryl, seem to be doing everything they can to get infected. Andrea sat around covered in her sister's blood all fricking night... then got as close as possible while blowing her brains out. Then they keep Jim around knowing that he's infected... all the while he's coughing up blood and shite throwing little virus particles all over the RV. This virus is IN THE BLOOD... and none of them (again... except for Daryl) seem to have fricking figured that out yet.
I love the show but in reality they would all be infected by now... IRL they keep these types of epidemics contained in Level 4 hot zones... on the show they portray it as ok to bathe in the blood as long as you don't get bit.

1. I wanted her sister to bite her fricking face off
2. She's a dumb bitch and deserves to be a walker.

Darryl sure does show respect for Shane and Rick for some reason. I would think he could take either one of them if he wanted to. I mean I'm glad he hasn't because I like him on the team but I would think his character is such a hard arse that he wouldn't be following them like he does.

I also have the same problem as other posters. The CDC guy is in a level A HAZMAT suit while the main characters are covered in the zombie blood. Pure fricking genius.

quote:agreed. When this went viral they probably had the military, National Guard and every other swingin' dick with a gun posted at all hospitals, city hall's and military / science (like CDC) bases all over the country. It had to be spread paper thin. Soldiers shoots zombies like mad to keep them at bay would make the ammo run out very quick. Business that manufactured ammo probably came to a screeching halt as employees and civilization collapses. Then there would be supply chain issues if ammo was available getting to every location that needed it would be next to impossible.
Seems to me the breakdown was logistical in nature. Shooting down zombies for months, with each shot drawing more targets, with economic infrastructure breaking down due to the outbreak....
Posted on 11/29/10 at 10:31 am to HooDooWitch
But here is the problem. The show already established that the zombies could not climb a fire escape ladder. If that is the case, any elevated position should have been safe. You could be simply 10 feet up in a deer stand shooting them one at a time. Barricade the entrance to a building and take them out from the second floor with a one bullet, one kill strategy.
BTW, getting ready to order 1000 rds of 7.62x39 ammo. Looks like @$200-230 is the going rate. Where is the cheapest/best place to order from TIA.
