How long until Carl goes off to join Walt from Lost in that big playground of child actors who grew faster than the story allowed?

I liked this..

quote:

Besides, if the show still needs a moral center (it doesn't,) Hershel's going to make a way better Dale anyway.

He has that whole sexily-shaken-religious-background thing going for him, he loves Bourbon almost as much as he loves quaint farm-folk anecdotes, and he even comes pre-packaged with an Infinite Shotgun. shite, I'd buy that action figure.

I re-watched it last night. I wonder what that sound they all heard was. Could it be Randall's group? Andrea and her savior?
All we can do is speculate that, no side knows...

Also, they were obviously not ready to be overrun, I wonder how that point will play into the future of the show. Will they prepare better for future herds of Zombies?

Lastly, I saw it said in this thread way earlier, that "Why was Rick keeping everyone quiet around that walker on the highway? When the group showed up minutes later with a loud motorcycle?"

Watching that scene, you can see its the same walker, we saw earlier, so it did hear the motorcycle and come back.

So Zombies somehow become obligate fermenters? Interesting.

Andrea is one fast bitch if it was her, considering the group had been driving at least an hour.

I'Ve never been camping and not heard something rustling in the woods. It could have just been a chipmunk or lion.

I don't believe it was anything of importance and it won't have any meaning for next season

i think it was just a catalyst for the discussion that ensued.

I rewatched the first 3 episodes last night. A few thoughts that came to mind:

1. They should head back to Rick's hometown. The jail has it's own propane system with hot water. It's a small enough, solid enough structure that it could be fortified and turned into a pretty defensable position. Compared to the places they have now seen, there weren't that many walkers. Rick walked/rode a bike all over town in his underwear and barely saw any. The walkers there seem even dumber than others since they didn't even attempt to get into the house even when Morgan was shooting at them. How did he fortify the house? Blankets on the windows and boards on the doors. Simple enough. In addition, right outside the hospital, there were several military hummers, a helicopter, and surely some military weapons. They could stock up.

2. Early on, Lori was concerned with Carl's whereabouts. At the original camp, she was constantly telling him to stay where the lookout could see him. What the hell happened.

3. T-Dawg was a fairly major character early on.

4. The walkers in Atlanta seem smarter than others. When trying to get into the department store, a couple of walkers actually picked up big rocks to break the glass. Based on what we've seen lately, shouldn't they just keep walking into the doors forever? Maybe they were fresher back then. We've heard freshly made zombies are quicker and more agile, so perhaps they still have a few synapses firing also.

5. Andrea has come a long way. I had forgotten that she didn't even know to click the safety off before firing. Now, she's Annie Oakley. They said Shane was a good instructor, but damn.

6. I felt bad for Carol the first time I watched this. I now understand where her husband was coming from. I don't condone it, but I understand it.

I remember we had long discussions about that...the main line of thought was that it likely just had a rock in its hand and happened to be hitting the glass with it. We figured then that it was coincidence rather than the walker actually thinking "Hey, this could break the glass."

someone said earlier in this thread that it was a bit contrived everyone showed up at the same time at the end of the last episode on the highway, but they explain that someone (the motorcycle maybe?) had actually rounded the stragglers up so earlier and thats why they all arrived together.

It's typical in Zombie movies for them to maintain certain primal instincts. Picking up rocks to smash windows, opening door knobs, heading to places of familiarity etc. Walking Dead is heavily influenced by George Romero and doesn't depart much from the rules he set in his zombie universe. At least that is the case with the show thus far. I just started reading the comics, but as far as I can tell they don't depart much from George Romero's rules either.

yeah i'm not saying she's likable, but her character has definitely changed thru the show. in some way, i think she's the most realistic character. losing hope/suicidal, angry at dale for making her live, then thankful for it. she doesn't have a strong enough personality to be a leader but is drawn to/takes notes from guys who get shite done (shane, rick, daryl).

even through the "eff it, kill yourself/you didn't kill yourself good job" thing with the blond girl she made sure that blond whiny girl did what she wanted to do and that choices weren't made for her.

yeah fast zombies suck. it seems like survivors wouldn't last long with fast zombies. they have numbers, and that should be enough.

one thing i thought about in TWD is that no one ever seems to die with bright clothes on. i've never seen a zombie in yellow or orange etc. also there'd be way more kid zombies walking around. just saying. i'm sure kid actors are a pain in the arse but how bout giving some short actors a job?

Right on. Just watched Land of the Dead for the first time the other day, and I had always thought that you had to get bit by a zombie to turn. In the opening credits of LotD they talk about anyone who dies will turn, and the only way to stop it is trauma to the brain. I just hope they don't evolve and get smarter. I thought that was stupid.

Perhaps not. Many adults would get bitten and escape. Most kids would just get eaten. Of course, those dying of other causes would become zombies.

I wasn't in the early threads since I watched season 1 on netflix. I'm not sure if I'm buying the fact that a couple of zombies just happened to have big arse rocks in their hands.
