One thing I dont get is, why do they bury the dead who turned inside the prison grounds. If I am growing food, animals, and such...why have the possibility of polluting the soil? Id bury them outside the walls, burn them, or drive them far from the prison.

I'm glad you mentioned this because Iw as thinking about that last night during the grave-digging scene. In this sort of world, why wouldn't people be burning bodies instead of burying them?

It's faster, it's safer (no risk of them coming back as zombies, lower risk of any sort of disease infesting in the corpse, etc) and you don't need as much land to do it.

I thought the same last night. That's prime real estate.

Also agree that I don't know why Rick let all the pigs go. Should have release one, got the walkers to chase it and taken them out with ease.

Yeah. I would think they'd have a burn pit set up or something. shite, with the amount of walkers by the fence, the fire would probably never go out.

Just burn a few at a time so the fire doesn't get big enough to attract other humans.

That's one thing Woodbury did right...they had the burn pit. And even better, it was in a "loading dock" sort of spot, where it was concrete built into the ground. So they were contained, not only from escaping, but also from seepage into the ground.

I'm sure the prison has a similar loading dock area...could use that for burnoff of dead people/walkers (at least walkers if you are set on burying loved ones, which is understandable).

Discussed on the previous 2 pages. They think the pigs may have the disease that caused the Harry Potter kid to die.

Even Morgan set up a burn area in a dilapidated shell of an old building. It wasn't really a pit, but he had one area to bring all the bodies to every day.

It just makes sense.

This.

Part of the story for this season seems to be that they had finally reached some level of "normalcy" within the prison so it's more understandable that they turn back toward burying their dead. It's an old habit and old habits can help immerse people into that "normalcy", which is what they all really want.

Except for folks like Merle. I think he liked the new reality because he could be successful in it.

Does anyone have the preview of EP3 that played on Talking Dead? I've looked for it on youtube and AMC.com, but I can't find it.

Much thanks!

Exactly why they had the curtains instead of shutting the cell doors. I would make sure the doors were always shut at night.

Since the momma pig died, Rick figured they were probably infected too.

I think the people on the council, Carl, and Beth are the only ones that have really resigned themselves to the new reality right now. Maybe Glen and Maggie.

Rick waffles back and forth, and Tyreese is being obstinate.

Same here. I was thinking last night during that first scene that I would have a belt or something tied to keep my cell door closed. If I die in my sleep, it keeps me in and if someone else dies and they zombie-up, it keeps them out. Because zombies can't untie things.

Yup. And have different areas blocked off for breach purposes

Last season really shook Rick. It looks to me like he's spent the time between the ending of last season and Ep1 of this season doing his best to convince himself that they are safe inside the fence and because of that things can go back (almost) to the way they were prior to the outbreak. The whole thing about him and the psycho in the woods was about starting to break down that wall of denial. Sacrificing the pigs was another part of that.

Tyreese has been a "gentle giant" sort since he first appeared. What happened to Karen is going to take Tyreese on what I think will be a long, dark journey.

Yeah, I would do something like that as well.

They mentioned that they followed protocols for locking down D Block. You'd think by now they'd have protocols for each individual room. But it goes back to either getting too comfortable or trying to live in the new reality under the rules of the old one.

A prison would probably have an incinerator.

I would say the culmination. He resumed his sheriff role and realized that Carol was right to teach the kids how to handle weaponry. You can try your best to have a community, but you can't be in denial about what's right outside the fence.

Yeah, that sounds much more accurate.
