After the first few enjoyable episodes, I was thinking it felt like the tone of the SWINGERS crew advancing to studio positions later in life while capturing the current LA industry vibe ... minor spoiler .... and then they actually laid out a nice homage to that film while in Vegas.

I will say the studio office build is amazing and it's shot very well. We scouted the former studio head's house up in the hill for the Sympathizer. Cool property owned by Kelly Lynch. I deal with studio execs on most shows in some capacity and they can be a meddling bunch. But also a good ally when needed. All about the balance of ridiculousness and practical filmmaking.

The last 2 episodes were hilarious. I love the pacing of the show.

As someone who has worked in film for 20 years, they exaggerate but it is pretty fricking accurate. Episode 2 where they are trying to get the magic hour shot is almost spot on, especially the studio head parking in the middle of the fricking shot. Got PTSD seeing that one.

This episode was great but it was a little too much. Rogen was so unbearable in this one it was painful

It really was hard to watch. I started to feel some of the same vibe with the awards show, but the cameos and the thanking Sal gave enough of break.

I feel like I outgrew Seth Rogen about 10 years ago. However, I love most series done by Apple. Is this typical Rogen stoner comedy, or is he playing it straight?

Its not a stoner comedy at all.

It is a satirical/comedic/parody take on the Hollywood studio system, lots of cringe and stress humor, very fast paced

edit: He plays a guy that has worked his way up to become the head of a studio, and he genuinely loves film, but is an awkward guy in over his head that basically has to learn to compromise everything for how ridiculous Hollywood is

Awards show and the one shot were definitely my least favorite, but the thanking Sal bit was hilarious

I do think that it's just rehashing the usual Hollywood industry tropes, or the main one, which is that everyone is so phony and shallow their inability to be honest about anything creates a bunch of Three's Company type scenarios. You'd think the industry would have evolved but I guess that's the point.

My wife listens to Dex Sheppard's podcast which can be distilled down to two topics

Soberity and saying "oh, she/he is the best" about every single person in Hollywood, even if it is like the 8th lead in Saw 14

Rogen has a hit, but he irritated me in ep2.

I thought episode two was amazingly good. The comedic anxiety and tension just kept rising and rising and rising. I was captivated until the very end of it.

This show loosely reminds me of that 90's Robert Altman movie, The Player.

This is why I stopped listening to the Smartless podcast. The first few seasons were good, interesting guests and conversations, but eventually it devolved into an industry circle jerk. It seems like about a quarter of each episode is the three hosts fawning all over the guest. I think Sean Hayes has it in his contract that he has to tell every single guest "OMG your show/movie/album is my all time favorite!!!! That said Hayes seems like the normal one. Bateman and Arnett are like barnacles in the Hollywood bubble.
If you dropped them off somwhere in flyover country with no ID and no cell phone they'd probably be dead within a few days.

I’m surprised this board didn’t go Gaga over the Koll-Aid casting episode. That was hilarious

This show is funny as hell. Ike Barinholtz is extremely underrated.

Thank you Sal Saperstein!

Wife and I are thinking of starting this or the Friends and Neighbors John Ham show

How do you compare the two and which do you prefer?
