Do ya'll ever just get tired of being this person? Do you ever watch a movie just for the purpose of entertaining yourselves or do you constantly look for social-political subtext in everything?

depends if the movie is made with the purpose of entertaining people

I don't think star wars is guilty of the eye rolling, nauseating, vomit inducing pandering, but a lot of movies are and it's created a whole bunch of movie goers who justifiably are skeptical about such things.

and on top of that, they don't really made well crafted movies to entertain people anymore. social justice or no social justice, message or no message, they're soulless assembly line products made with little effort to make money.

ghostbusters was made 1. because sony wanted to use a license to make tons of money, and 2. the director, writers and actors wanted to make something empowering for women...no one started with "hey I have a great fricking idea"

Couple of things:

Imax Poster for tLJ

And I guess you could consider this semi-spoilery. Rian Johnson on Twitter confirmed that "the Last Jedi" refers to:

Spoilers:

Luke

end Spoilers.

Again, I felt this was kind of obvious but again, we analyze ourselves into a hole.

I mean...it is literally said, word for word, in the opening crawl of TFA.

Luke says, "I've seen this raw strength only once before. It didn't scare me enough then." Who is he referring to?

Trying to figure out if he could just be referencing something insignificant to the story line like Vader or Palpatine... maybe Yoda.

But if he is referring to Kylo, I hope it means Kylo is actually FAR more powerful than how he appeared in TFA.

ETA: Sorry - I see this has kind of already been touched on in this thread. Decided to skip a bunch of pages to avoid bullshite about spoilers and SJWs.

Presumably Kylo.

Kylo doesn't appear powerful because something is holding him back. He is entirely conflicted. He wants to fully harness the darkside but he cannot, because the light is holding him back.

That's my theory at least.

I think most are. And of course there are movies made with the purpose to give a feeling of empowerment to a number of different minorities.

My problem is with the section of society that actively looks for hidden sjw messages in EVERY movie. These people need to frick off and get a life.

I watch lots of movies for entertainment, I am not a boycotter person. Does not change the current climate of Hollywood right now. Maybe I should take a knee to have the discussion

Ok.

two guys posted straight up spoilers that they were not passing on as "theories" but actual, SPECIFIC leaks about the end of the movie. Ricky's wasn't that bad, but RK's straight up ruined the end of the film.

You think that's cool? Seriously?

I'm starting to think that this could be the beginnings of a Kylo and Rey relationship. Imagine the force power of their children?

I was under the impression that it was just a popular theory they picked up from Reddit rather than an actual verified leak.

If it's the former, then you suck.

If it's the latter, you suck less.

OML still sucks in either scenario.

I understand the concerns about leaks, but then again this is a discussion thread. Why not just exit the thread?

Spider-Man homecoming was, but there was also considerable effort to be woke. it was eye rolling.

No. Roger Klarvin straight up said what happens at the end of the movie according to leaks.

Not a theory. No spoiler tag of any kind.

Ricky's was passed off as a leak, but he backtracked and said theory later. It wasn't that big a deal, just would have preferred not to know it as it is a fairly significant plot point that could effect the end of the film.

Yeah, I can roll with that. For Kylo to truly be a standout character, he needs to wield more power than we've seen from him.

Also makes me wonder if Luke saying "it scares me now," is because he senses full-on Dark Side with Rey.

I also feel like Snoke's "raw power" line could be referring to Rey as well. The trailer shows they have a confrontation, and we still don't really know where Rey came from.

I hope they don't water down the force powers. In that trailer Rey was just kind of cracking some rocks and Luke looked like he was about to shite his pants. I'm hoping she was making like a tsunami or some shite that we couldn't see.
