The show “Evil” - Are the characters in this show the dumbest ever on TV?

I don’t know how many people watch this show. But, man, these people are dumb. We are almost 4 seasons into this show, and every “Atheist” or “Non-Religious” Person has had no less than 10 clear Supernatural experiences, either Demonic or Divine. Yet, they still beat their head against the wall continuously finding excuses. In season 1 it was an interesting part of the plot, but after 30 more episodes it’s just annoying.

I’m not trying to make this into an argument about faith or beliefs. I’m just saying that in a vacuum, these people are dumb as shiz, and wondering if anyone else watching has same opinion.

The Apostles doubted Christ despite everything they saw Him do.

No, they are really well fleshed out characters in my opinion. If you haven’t seen how their characters have grown throughout then I don’t know if you’ve actually watched the show. One of the best shows on tv in my opinion.

I agree. I love this show and this season has been very good. I believe there are three more episodes and can't wait to see how they finish it off.

I think it’s a really good show. I just get frustrated with Kristen and Ben. Kristen in particular. I don’t know about character fleshing she is the same doubting person, despite seeing the Devil in season 1…

Absolutely not, she has changed quite a lot too. Ben? His character is one of the most fleshed out characters of all. I don’t understand honestly but that’s ok. I only want more people to watch the show.

Ben has probably evolved the most. He’s gone from serious scientist to literally wearing a tinfoil hat.

Never heard of it.

*So, not a "reality tv" show, but more akin to The X Files.

OK.

I don't see Kristen as doubting what she sees, I think it's more than that. My impression is she's in full on "I'm not playing your game" denial in season 4.

Ben on the other hand is exactly how many scientists these days act. They have been trained so hard on materialism that anything violating that is seen as impossible. His instinct is to doubt his own sanity rather than believe his own eyes. While that may be "dumb" I don't think it's too far off base for the type of person he is supposed to be.

It's on Paramount+ and XFiles isn't a terrible comp but probably gives you the wrong impression. Evil follows a Catholic Church exorcism assessment team made up of a priest, a psychologist, and a scientist. It's a mix of MOW with Main story arc, with the main story being that the Anti Christ is coming and this team is of course right in the middle of the main story arc.

Ben (scientist) and Kristen (psychologist) are the Scully to David's (priest) Mulder.

Well even if these characters were more “fleshed out” than my assessment, it didn’t amount to anything. This show went out with a whimper. Good episode, terrrible series finale. My goodness what a waste of time watching this one.

Agreed, I thought the finale was definitely a letdown. It's like they got to the end and didn't know what to do, so they didn't really do anything.

Sucks. Show had potential.

I believe they got caught flat footed with the show unexpectedly being cancelled and had to rush the ending.

I agree. It was to the point where I didn't even realize it was the end. They tried to tie it up somewhat, but from the trajectory of the show, to where it ended, they didn't really finish strong. It's not the worst ending of all time, but it might be the flatest ending of all time all things considered.

Here's hoping they continue the show in Rome and maybe we can even get a neat crossover episode with Russell Crowe doing his Pope's Exorcist thing.

My understanding is that after they had done the 10 episodes of season 4 (not sure if it means the writing or filming, too) they were given 4 additional episodes to end the series.

The creators already had plans for another season for sure and wanted 6 total seasons. They were going to go with a lot more court scenes in the next season. So they had to drop some story lines and wrap up quickly.
