I love going to the movies especially for big blockbusters.
Same, but it has been getting to a point where going to a movie with SO and a couple of kids in tow is going to set you back $75 to $100, after tickets, arcade, a couple of drinks, candy, popcorn etc. IMO you are going to see a lot more first-rate movies hitting ppv at $20-$30 a pop, especially movies that don't cost a whole lot to produce or don't require the "boom". Trolls 2 made money ppv and Doughten Abby is $20 ppv on Prime. If you consider say 30 million views world-wide at $20 a show, that's $600MM without the expense of distribution. Once this takes hold, there won't be enough good "boom" movies out there to keep the theatres in business.
FWIW: I'd ppv TENET $30 tomorrow to get a look at it.

Going to be a bloodbath for theaters in the next few months.
No way they stay in business if films like Tenet are delayed.

The only theaters is can see seating afloat are the locally owned ones that got enough PPP money to pay their bills until this shite ends. The big chains are going to be hit very hard because the likely have so much invested in their properties and have so much overhead.
Hollywood should know that if they lose their distributorships that charge 12$ a ticket they're going to go down too, unless they charge $50-$100 for a VOD release.
This truly saddens me. There's nothing like going to the movies with a group on a Saturday night or catching a weekday matinee on your off day.
Someone is going to have to be first. Warner Brothers should just release Tenet and keep it in the theaters for 6 months like movies used to.

Lol. I would bet good money they go to vod. Total pipe dream they can have this out in September. There won’t be many theaters left anyway.

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet will skip the United States for its initial release because of ongoing safety concerns surrounding the pandemic. It will instead roll out to several international territories weeks before the US gets it.
Warner Bros. is gearing up to release Tenet in 70 international territories, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, and the United Kingdom on August 26th, according to a press release. Tenet will then roll out into select theaters in the United States beginning September 3rd. The studio does not have plans currently to release Tenet in China right now, Variety reported.

As will the pirating, I’m sure. Which will only add to spoliers land mines littered all over the internets. I may have to unplug myself that week.

There was a Regal Cinemas that was a 10-minute walk away from my apartment complex. It has officially permanently closed its doors.
We had an Art House cinema that closed not too long ago because of slow business; they did a community fund raising campaign akin to Save the Clock Tower and then re-opened because the community basically bailed them out.
Now after all that money raised they are of course closed again...but have a website where you can rent their movies to stream and on the website they have Donate buttons everywhere.
I mean it's sort of like, give up already. Owning a movie theater isn't a non-profit charity. But it's like people put in so much money to save this place that they're hoping the public will keep them afloat.

Which sucks for Hollywood.
Their liberal dreams are burning them to the ground with their hero Gavin Newsom who wants to close California for all of next year.

Was just thinking this too. Looking to buy a home now (first time, not as fun as I thought it would be) and I am definitely going to look at a place with a big enough yard to build a MIL suite/home theater
