I know it's getting all the mob movie comparisons
But the number of developed characters that are interesting it is dare I say Shakespearean

It's well written for sure. Episode two was excellent.

So, the show is good, even great. It's got that compelling mob story down pat and it's well executed.
Just a bit of (spoiler) nitpicking.
Why did the Penguin's helper Victor try to infiltrate the large heavily-attended wake of an exceptionally powerful and popular mob family wearing his typical (actually glaring with that red jacket)) street clothes? Surely they understood that security was going to be crazy high. Really, if anything, he should have been wearing a black suit or something black suit-like. He had to have stood out from about a mile off before he even got to the church. At first I thought this was some sort of misdirection faint, like he was supposed to put on a show in front of everybody and pretend to almost get caught. But the Penguin then made Victor lay down in the grave, and I was just thinking that you can either plan for success or you can plan for failure. Having that kid waltz into that solemn setting wearing bright red street clothes pretty much decided which plan was being executed. What did Cobb really expect to happen in that scenario? It didn't quite make sense.
Also, at some point this is supposed to be a super villian show, right? I mean The Penguin is easily one of Batman's top nemesis'. Are we still in the origin part of the story here? When do we start to see our main character go from being just some scheming mafia lieutenant, to somebody who can actually take on Batman, and sometimes win? Heck even a hint of that would be compelling.
Anyway, I really like the show and will continue to watch, especially to see how Cristin Milioti's character works out.

If I had to guess, it will be at the very end of the season. This might just be a mini series with no season 2 as well. Reeves hasn't said he's doing a S2 and Colin also said he wasn't sure if he wanted to do it anymore.
How I saw it playing out in my head, and this was just solely a guess, was at the end of the season we'll see him set up as The Penguin that will more resemble what we expect a comic book villain to be like that would fit into this Batman universe and he be the main bad guy in The Batman 2.

I think he'll be a player in the entire trilogy, kind of like Ciliian Murphy in Nolan’s movies. But never the main villain.

He is so quick to adapt as the scene unfolds. Got a glimpse of it when Alberto caught him in Carmine's apartment. Then it was deployed when he convinced Sophia that Al was keeping them ignorant of each other in the new drug deal.
Caught in a lie or cornered by facts? Oz is a fricking savant of the pivot.

That was the idea! However in the scene where the Penguin is dropped off, you can see one of the valets - dark red evening jacket with a black collar, black dress pants, black dress shoes - far more appropriate. Would valets really be wearing a bright red jacket (over a plain white t-shirt), jeans and sports shoes at a high end funeral service? Maybe, but I don't think so. Even when he's caught, the first thing the security guy does is look him up and down at how he's dressed. I doubt that actor was even coached to do that. The most instinctive natural question anybody would ask themselves in that setting is, "Does this person belong here?" If Victor had been wearing a nice black suit, or even perhaps actually been dressed as one of the valets, I wonder if he couldn't have found some way to improvise his way out of that. But with those clothes, not even the slimmest chance.
And since that scene has come up, just a tiny other thing that very slightly bothered me... how did he get those car keys? Presumbably, he snuck them out of the secure valet's area. Also presumably (perhaps stereotypically), mafia types have a tendency of having their cars explode. It seems kinda unlikely he'd be able get anywhere near those keys. But I've let this go because because maybe a well-placed bribe to a low-paid valet could make that happen.

I think one of his defining characteristics is his willingness to frick over anyone to get his way. So in the end, he'll give up Victor, Sophia, and maybe even his mom, to become The Penguin as we know him.

Collin Farrell was next level in the scene where he confesses to Sophia

So this new drug is used at Arkham. Could they be teasing Jonathan Crane?

I guess "Bliss" is a better name than "Mushroom Sweat".

Immediately where my mind went. And I know it's in a different "universe" but dang Cillian Murphy was so good at it that I was expecting him to walk around the corner.
Loving the show.

Thank you that makes sense
As much detail as they pay to character motivations and background story you wouldn't think they would have a scene ,,that out of sync
I think they're called Easter eggs being dropped
They scene in the nightclub I thought that 2 of the girls that were seen taking drugs might have been in another episode and then scene with Victor imagining the bombs exploding all that it was foreshadowing to him seeing the destruction that the drug is having upon maybe even on some of these characters used in foreshadowing

Another great episode... This show is killing it.

I just got all caught up. This show is legit. I was a little unsure of Victor's character, but this most recent episode brought me around. Cristin Milioti is amazing, and I honestly forget I'm watching Colin Farrell sometimes.

That was just a flashback to the trauma of the city being bombed and his parents being killed. After the credits the show runners talked about it. Clearly has PTSD from that event.
Just a good episode overall. They said that was their "Victor" episode. I really like his character, very good supporting role. Every scene Oz and Sophia are in together is just gold.
