The door was cracked the whole time at the end. Why did they wait for the last second to handoff the flash drive? Wouldn't have been as dramatic I guess?
I like how it wasn't the typical "Hey look, door opened in the time!"
I remember thinking the whole time though, "Just hand it off bro beans"

No, I wanted some good and relatable characters. This movie didn't give me that.
While they could have done a better job, you were never going to get what you wanted from this film. It didn't have the time to give you that

As far as the score was concerned, it was an alteration of the Star Wars theme and just sounded weird. They kept the Imperial March theme for Vader, which I liked.
Yea, the Vader theme was well done, the rest was largely forgettable. The worst part about it was how it was used. The first half of the movie they tried to show how grand it was and had these completely over the top orchestral performances for characters walking and talking through a hangar. It made no sense.

Sorry some of you dorks can't see it for what it is.
A jumbled mess of a story with some very well done action scenes at the end that make up for the rest of a mediocre movie?

I swear there's a few of you who want a 2 hour long cut of Vader cutting people down to make you happy.
Nah. I want at least 30 minutes of that to be him using the force, not his lightsaber.

I saw it last night. What I have to say repeats much of what others have said, which verifies some of these observations.
The Good:
The third act is dynamite. There is huge payoff in the climactic battle scene at the end. This alone is worth the price of admission.
Just enough Easter eggs without being obnoxious.
The interplay of Krennic and Tarkin was great. I especially liked how Tarkin screwed him over.
I liked the "new" ship designs and set designs. The location of Scarif was different and cool. K2 was fun.
Some of the acting was good. Felicity Jones did a good job with what she had to work with. The guy who played Krennic was good. I think Jones did a good job carrying the lead. I bought it.
The Bad:
What many have said is true. The character development is poor. I wanted to like them, but I did not feel much investment in them. I can't even tell you the names of Donnie Yen's character, his friend, or the pilot. Yikes. While watching the movie, I actually thought... this movie has poor character development. To be honest, I wasn't feeling this movie at all until the third act.
Not sure what Jyn's "hero's journey" is actually all about here. It feels as though she's the same character from beginning to end. There's a bit of a change in Cassian. It seems like he had more of a journey than Jyn did. The plot progresses, and is interesting. But Jyn doesn't. I think they missed an opportunity to show some reflection on what it meant to Jyn (if it meant anything at all) to be part of the Rebellion, as opposed to being a lone wolf. If it meant nothing, then show us that it meant nothing. It's okay to show us what she's thinking/feeling.
The Questionable:
I'm going to go against the grain here. Darth Vader was not necessary to the story until the very end, and his inclusion (even the action scene at the end) feels like fan service.
There's nothing wrong with giving people what they want, and I'm not above nerding out over seeing Vader in action, but this felt forced to me. Give him a meatier part.
I'm not saying it's bad, because he's exciting and he sells tickets. Let's be real. He's the MAN. If he wasn't in the movie, we would be pissed off. But the fact that he's in the movie... and the movie could have been made without him... shows that he's a character that the producers/writers really didn't know what to do with. It's as if they were scared to use him.
Overall, out of 10, I give this one a strong 7. I'm hard on movies. A 7 is a good score for me.

Even without the Bothans dying... a shite ton of people/creatures died, but that's pretty typical of most Star Wars movies.
Eventually that galaxy is going to run out of creatures to kill.

I had no problem tossing that up to the sense of "Oh my god who the frick is this monster, what the frick is that red thing, why is Steve on the ceiling, frick shite balls we're going to die"
The more I reflect though, the more I'm not a fan of how they got the plans to the rebels. First off, why didn't the rebel flagship transmit to Yavin or Alderaan? Secondly, why the frick did Bail send Leia into the fricking battle where everyone dies when she was going to deliver a message to Obi Wan? Thirdly, what was stopping the cruisers from shooting the shield gate?

Why was the Death Star destroying the planets different from the OT? More powerful in the OT?

They were using a small fraction of the full power of the Death Star.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I really liked all the characters except for Forest Whitaker's. I was actually impressed they made me care when I knew they would most likely not be heard from in any other film again.

They deserve to be remembered (correctly) for their sacrifice.

Yen's character got tiring. I love him, but he was just so out of place.

Was wondering the same thing. Why is she near that battle? Couldn't they have just transmitted the plan to the Tantive IV if they are worried about it being intercepted going to Alderaan or Yavin? Sending it to Alderaan would have played perfectly into Vader boarding the Tantive IV at the start of ANH
