WEll i guess it could show how much power Tarkin really has. Look at it in ANH when Vader is chocking Conan Antonio Motti , Chief of the Imperial Navy, (had to look him up) And Tarkin tells him to release him. and he says "As you wish".
If Vader was so much higher ranking than Tarkin he would have told him to piss off and dont tell me what to do.

Yea, I didn't necessarily mean as a show of power as a rank thing, just Vader setting the tone on why all his officer's fear him. Tarkin and Vader are equal per say when it comes to the Empire rank and respect for each other. It would be played more as Tarkin and Vader agreeing on the proper punishment for such a failure.

meh, if the movie doesn't have Porkins in it then I'll probably just wait for the blu ray release.

One thing I did like about this movie is that it did enforce the point that they were dying for something. That was the only big character development I noticed with Jyn. What made that more powerful is that we're aware that their stories aren't really lauded and re-told later on. Luke, Han, Chewie, Leia and the rebel squadron are the ones that get the glory but massive sacrifices have to be made to even get to that point.

would have made much more sense for a rebel to use a shuttle and then jump to hyperspace and get picked up by the Tantive.

Rumor going around Film people is that they had a bigger more gruesome Vader scene and it got cut.
The massive reshoot had more to do with how dark it was and Disney execs weren't happy. They toys to sell
