Just got home from seeing Rogue One.
I grew up on Star Wars, and I must say that this movie was frickin incredible.
My 19yo son also a SW fan loved it and so did my wife - a passing SW fan.
I thought it was excellent.

Also, I'm puzzled how Vader goes from annihilating dozens of rebels like that then literally day later partake in the painfully bland saber fight with Obi Wan in ANH.
It's not a great explanation, but frankly it's just the truth. Lucas changed how he thought light sabers should work. Originally they were heavier, much like samurai swords. It changed to how they are now.

I am sure the technology they had available in 1977 had a hell of a lot to do with it to.

So, would anyone else have been happy just seeing the last five minutes or so and them just re-showing ANH or just me?

Also, anyone feel weird without the opening crawl? Just seemed so odd not having it.

I thought it was interesting that the same crystals used for light sabers was what powered the Death Star's main weapon.

I honestly can't remember if it's always been that way or not.

quote:Yea I didn't like that. It also would've sped up the first hour a bit and not had it be so jumpy because they would've been able to explain some of the stuff.

I don't think they ever talked about what powered the Death Star before this movie.
Hell I don't think they ever talked about what powered light sabers before this movie did they? In any of the movies I mean.

Kaber crystals have been used for a while, just not mentioned in the movies.

Also, if I'm the rebels, I'm converting every K2 droid I can. He was a killing machine. Yet, they just disappear and are never heard from. Just like about every ship used. For some reason, after this battle, they are never used again

Did I hear Organa right when he said he had an old jedi friend that had been in hiding, and was a female?? First I've heard of this. Unless he meant Leia.

Watch "the gathering" episode from the Clone wars animated series in season 5. It's on netflix. It's about how jedi younglings build their own light sabers and they must get kyber crystals in the most unforgiving environment possible on an ice planet and Yoda is there to supervise them.

Yea, the she was Leia. He was going to send Leia to inform Obi Wan because he trusted her with his life. How I took it at least.

Yeah I remember that, but it hasn't been mentioned in the movies at all, most people won't have watched the Clone Wars

Only way that could be possible is if he's talking about Ahsoka Tano.

I just got home from seeing it. Loved it! Absolutely loved it!
Great tie-ins with ep. IV. Also like K2SO and the blind man too. That guy was freaking cool.
I know it says "spoilers" in the title but just to be safe-
***SPOILERS***
The CGI Peter Cushing, Red Leader, Leia were great.
Vader is a freaking badass. That scene at the end. I can't get it out of my head. That was sweet!

I think that was just poorly written. The Old Jedi friend in hiding has to be Ben. Then he was asked/told it had to be someone they could trust and he said "I trust her"
But the way he said it in the movie, I immediately thought we were somehow going to see Ahsoka in the movie.

Probably because it hasn't been relevant at all until now. And kyber crystals being what powers lightsabers is something I would not expect to be common knowledge in the star wars universe so I don't see how they could've dropped that nugget so casually in the movie.

It's really a shame. It's such a well done series and seasons 3-6 are some of the best star wars you will ever watch. The last 3 episodes with Yoda training was amazing, especially when he goes to the Sith homeworld and palpatine and dooku try to turn him.
