I would have told you hes wrong. Super is fun but I don't give it the same marks at Z and dragon ball.

There's some interesting ideas introduced but some of the character development from Z to super hasnt worked for me.

Goku-wayyyyy too dumb, he's regressed SIGNIFICANTLY from Z

Vegeta-lost his depth and complexity

Gohan-just boring, too irrelevant as a fighter

Krillin- why is he so tiny? It's absurd how small they've made him

Piccolo- still the same piccolo, not much here

Goten & Trunks-were more relevant at the end of Z than they have been at any point in super. They went from supremely advanced super saiyan kids to....just regular children with Goten being extra dumb.

Other things:

power scaling is really out of control

The God forms are inconsistent and seem too easily achieved by many characters

The 6th universe Saiyans are lame.

Other than that DB is still a rich world with a lot of interesting stuff in it.

Just finished episode 107, Super is an interesting show, very fun, but there are so many things that bother me.

75% of the tournamenr of power has been absolute fodder. Dont get me wrong, it was cool to see Roshi givr his all when he was clearly outmatched. But at the same time felt extremdly forced.
To be honest, Jiren and Top, Goku, Vegeta, 17, Frieza, and Hit could have and should have eliminated practically the entire field all in the first 5 minutes.

I absolute despise Caulifa and her back-tingling super saiyan transformation. I don't care much for the female Broly, but it did excite me with the prospect of Broly(the absolute best dbz movie and one of my favorite characters) possibly coming into the show at some point.

Why and how the frick did 17 become so strong by being a fricking park ranger. It's fun seeing him revert back to his android tendencies in the tourney, but it is absolute shitty writing to give him this huge powerup from no reason.

There's a few other worthy fighters left that just haven't shown out yet where you're at.

A new Broly movie did come out last year, and it's pretty good. The old Broly movies, and none of the 90s movies, were ever canon bc they were done without Toriyama (same as GT). Only the newer movies from this decade are canon to the storyline, so Broly is only just now officially canon to the franchise

He's been training. It's simple. It's been years since the events of DBZ and he's been training the whole time. Characters train and have huge power jumps on the show all the time. Otherwise you don't have characters like Krillin, Tien, and Roshi being able to hold their own in this tournament

Just finished super. Holy frick. I certainly had my doubts about the show. In fact, up until the Zamasu/Black saga I thought it was no better than GT if not worse.

Alot of the Tournanent of Power was drawn out annoying. But the ending battles vs Top the destroyer and Jiren was everything and more. I had a lot of enjoyment in seeing Frieza get curbstomped multiple times over. Although I wish that Jiren would have took the time to kick him off of whatever rock he was laying on.
Goku mastering ultra instinct is honestly up there with the first Ssj transformation and Gohan going SSj2 as an all-time Dragonball moment.
I loved 17's character. He was clearly outmatched vs Top and Jiren but his wits kept him in the game and proved very useful for u7. I don't think they win the tourney without him.
The ending definitely surprised me. My initial thought was that somehow Frieza would win and he would finally get his wish for immortality from planet namek. I would not have been excited for that because I dont want another huge Frieza arc.. Although i had a feeling someone would get the idea to simply wish back the erased universes at the end. I figured Zeno would come in and threaten to kill the winning universe if this wish was made. So when it was revealed that Zeno would actually kill them if any wish besides bringing everyone back to life, I was thoroughly shocked.

My thoughts now are what's next. As weird as it sounds, I dont really want to see any more power ups. I dont care to see Goku have to beat up yet another big big bad. I dont care to see a GodSSj3MUI.
Id be interested in Vegeta finding a planet Cold with all of Frieza's family, and have him come really close to wanting to destroy it in order to avenge his planet.
Id be much more interested seeing a story arc of where Jiren actually gets close with all of his pride troopers, and he gets revenge on whoever it was that killed his parents. Id be interested in seeing Vegeta go to Sadala and explore the similarities/differences between Planet Vegeta. Id be interested in seeing Piccolo go to the other planet Namek and training with the u6 warriors. 6
Id be interested in seeing Goten and Trunks be developed more. They are vastly more powerful than their fathers were at their age, so their potential should be through the roof.

I've thought for awhile that Jiren is the one who actually killed his family in a fit of blind rage, because his power was so immense he didn't know how to control it as a child.

The short, shadow-animated backstory they gave him, kind of implies that.

the new Dragon Ball movie takes place after the tournament of power. It’s one of the best dragon ball movies and is a must watch. The manga continues after the movie and has a new villain. When the anime comes back it will follow with the story the manga is currently telling. The new villain has a power that really has given Goku and Vegeta a lot of trouble. It has a lot of callbacks to DBZ and so far is better than anything in super. I can’t wait for the anime to come back and pick it up.

I don't read manga, but the new villain sounds interesting.

Planet Eater Moro. He's a wizard that's been in galactic prison for millions of years. He fights with magic instead of brute strength, martial arts, and ki blasts like how fights normally happen in DB. Like rebel of fortune said, it gives Goku and Vegeta a lot of trouble because they can't approach a fight with Moro like they do with everybody else.

I think most people here watch it on crunchyroll or funimation. Toonami gets it last but I've been watching. I thought the ending was a bit anticlimatic. The pacing was pretty good for the tournament in contrast to the fight with Buu from DBZ which was way too long and drawn out. The wish was obvious.

A few thoughts, why was universe 7 initially considered one of the weakest? They were in that pre tournament fight because they had one of the lowest average power levels.
Could they have brought back perfect Cell or does he not exist anymore since they destroyed every last atom?
Would Goten and Trunks have worked better than say Krillin and Master Roshi? Considering the tournament was 48 minutes and they could fuse for 30 minutes they would have been a formidable force. Krillin and Roshi do have a big edge in experience and battle smarts though.

Go back about a year or two and you'll see where most of us watched it live when it first aired in Japanese. We pretty much came to the consensus that the tournament was a little flawed with quite a few just ok episodes, but it also featured some of the best and coolest episodes maybe in the history of the show.

I watched bits and pieces of maybe about 10 episodes of the dub. Once they started referring to Toppo as "Top" and most everyone in Universe 11 had some kind of weird cheesy ghetto clown voice, I was out.

Probably because a lot of powerful races were wiped out by Frieza/Beerus. Saiyans, Namekians, etc.

Universe 7 was top heavy with the most powerful saiyans and the most powerful namekians alive. So even though the universe as a whole had a low mortal power level, their top obviously could stand with any universe.

Rumor is the artists dont like drawing cell, too much detail, but there has been noise about bringing him back in some capacity.

Yes, one of the many problems of super is what they've done to power levels and also personalities.

Goten and Trunks were powerful prodigies in the Buu saga and now have been relegated to idiot children in super. Just like Goku went from evolving personality with seriousness to complete idiot who just loves to fight.

I think Toriyama wanted these character back in the story after taking a back seat in Z.

Super is an attempt to bring a Z-esque narrative to a dragon ball level atmosphere. It largely doesnt work, but still a fun watch anyways.

Isn't Super only 2 years after Goku destroyed Buu? That's still 8 years before the final episode of Z.

Something I never thought of until now - how come Ginyu never stole Freeza's body?

I figured it's cuz he had too much respect for Frieza. Ginyu basically lived to suck off-I mean serve Frieza. It's possible he never desired true power himself, getting bosser around by Frieza was enough.

Originally in Z I theorized that Ginyu couldn't switch bodies with individuals who are significantly stronger than him. But Super kinda busted that myth.

Frieza knows Ginyu can switch bodies, so it would be incredibly difficult to catch Frieza with it. If he fails, it is sure death so Ginyu would likely not try it unless he was somehow 100% sure. His body change likely moves at the speed of light, but characters in DBZ already had been shown to move even faster than that. Even in very close range if Frieza sees the light from the attack, he can react.

Well that, and Ginyu having to shout out the name of his attack would probably tip off Frieza too. Seriously, why did they always have to call out their attacks?
