Well, he was actually the champion when pretty much none of the DBZ characters were participating. In other words, he was winning during the really easy years.
I think it was basically during the entire DBZ series beginning. Everyone was usually thinking about the next earth threat,Saiyan Saga, Garlic Jr., and then there was the Frieza Saga, Android/Cell Saga.
As you saw at the end of DBZ, right before the Buu Saga, it was only in the time of peace that everyone even thought about the World Martial Arts Tournament again.
Also, Puar, Oolong and Chichi were not really "fighters".

Puar, Oolong, and Chichi were all able to survive a bullet. Videl who was stronger than Mr. Satan was knocked out when she was grazed by a bullet.

I didn't understand the Penguin Island stuff in Dragonball and it made even less sense in Super.

They just finished the Cell saga on Toonami. I wonder if they'll keep going and show both at the same time.

I didn't mind the end to Trunk's arc. I was happy they let him get the kill, although it is a little bit questionable. It was fitting that the being that loved using spirit blades so much died to a spirit blade.
These filler episodes have been shite. I'm ready for a new arc to begin. The non-canon crossover was crap.

Man I'll be glad to be back in this thread once Dragon Ball Super starts here in the U.S.

I've been spoiled on Dragonball pretty much my whole life.
I knew the entirety of the Cell Saga from my friends before we even saw a glimpse of Freiza in the USA.

Honestly, I kind of wish the series ended with the Cell Games. That was perfect. The Buu saga was OK, but didn't hold a candle to the Cell saga, imo.

I agree. The Buu saga did had some really awesome scenes though.
