‘The Office’ Crew Blames NBC for Forcing Steve Carell’s Exit: ‘It Was Absolutely Asinine’

I guess we all thought Steve outgrew the show and wanted to expand his career to movies at the time. He's such a professional he never mentioned he was basically forced out.

“He didn’t want to leave the show,” Ferry said. “He had told the network that he was going to sign for another couple of years. … He told his manager and his manager contacted them and said he’s willing to sign another contract. And the deadline came for when [the network was] supposed to give him an offer and it passed and they didn’t make him an offer. So his agent was like, ‘Well, I guess they don’t want to renew you for some reason.’ Which was insane to me. And to him, I think.”

Give me a break. Dude had the beginnings of a budding movie career as a leading man and was only making $175,000 an episode even that late into the show (I say “only” as opppsed to what he would get for a film).
Dude couldn’t wait for his 7 years to be up so he could move on.

How was he only making that much on the office in 2010?? The stars of friends were making like $1m per episode in 2004?

Yeah if he was only paid that per episode they were forcing him out. Not saying he should have made Friends money, but double that deal he was on would have been fair at least.

Friends had a much smaller cast I guess

True- but most of those were bit players. How many episodes did we see where the main story was carried by Toby or Kevin? It was Steve, then Jena and John and Rainn-then everyone else was tertiary.

Go look at the ratings history of The Office. It never was a top show in the ratings.
Netflix is what caused The Office to become extremely popular.

Ehhh, I don’t buy it.

Steve Carell leaving early was actually one of the best moves of his career - it proved he really couldn't be replaced even by some of the best comedians out there seeing that they actually tried several.
His character on that show has aged EXTREMELY well.

Unpopular opinion, but I thought Robert California was hilarious. No where near the level of Michael Scott, but I enjoyed the character for what he was.

Late seasons Michael has aged well
Season one michael has aged like milk. He would have been cancelled on twitter 10 minutes into "Diversity Day"

This does fly in the face of what Carell was saying for years afterwards, that it was simply time to move on and he was happy with the exit. And he was right, it was time for him.
It could be just him being the nice guy that he is, not wanting to trash them.

He, his agent, everyone said that at the time, and it made sense because he was doing films then and his star had kind of surpassed the show. So no one questioned it.
I sort of question this report, but maybe it was a combo of the two.

Also, I'm here to say that Jim & Pam were a terrible relationship and would have ended in divorce.

Weird. I remember everyone in high school being just as obsessed with it as they are now.

This is true.
You could tell Jim hated her by the end.

Luckily, twitter cancer wasn't around then.
